According to Nelda Speller, County Extension Director, "Kids & Cows & More is a fun and interesting way to learn about agriculture and its role in our everyday lives. With less than 2 percent of the U.S. population producing food, it’s vital that we educate youth on just how important agriculture is and spark their interest in becoming involved in some aspect of agricultural production in the future".
1,139 3rd and 4th grade students and teachers from 14 local schools participated in the 3-day agricultural literacy program, held at the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo in collaboration with Southwest Dairy Farmers.
Activites included a mobile dairy classroom with real life cow milking, butter churning, bee production and honey tasting, nutrition and veggie tasting, and water use and conservation, and let's not forget cotton ginning!
