I have been in the nursing profession since the age of 15 . I started volunteering at the age of 13 when my Mom heard me make the statement that I wanted to be a nurse . Being a teacher was my second option . She wanted to start me out getting used to the sight , smell , and touch of being in the hospital setting . She invested the first seed into my 30 + career in nursing .
I was asked to write an article about the importance of healthcare in the individual . When I was asked this question one night after Power in the Word , we had just come out of a teaching in a series on understanding your purpose . I purposed to be a nurse . I prepared for it early , I went to Nursing Assistant School , then on to the Licensed Practical Nurse Program through my school . I am grateful for the way it all happened . I would do it again . I got an early glimpse into the cost of healthcare or the lack of it . I began to see the side effects of people not taking care of themselves .
Eating poorly , missing Doctor appointments , ignoring signs , misinformation and abuse of the prescription services . These unhealthy choices have led to the current scrutiny of the healthcare system by individuals and governing bodies .
A system set up so that everyone , despite race , sex , gender , religion , financial status or insurability could receive the care needed to live a healthy , long life . A life free of oppression of services to provide this health care . It was intended to be affordable , within reach , and easy to understand the services provided and the expected outcome . What happened and how did it go this wrong ? The people would say the governing body , the governing body would say the people .
