Uptown 596 does a lot of dishes well, but the
variety of its salads bowls customers over.
Choices include a dozen hearty offerings such
as the Fisherman Salad, including grilled
shrimp or fresh lump crabmeat; the vegetarian
Uptown; and the Uptown Power, overflowing

DINER
You don’t have to be a kid to love Applegate
Farm, but it doesn’t hurt. Or maybe going
there just brings out our internal child to
choose from dozens of flavors, including cake
batter, cappuccino crunch, peanut butter
fudge brownie and peach. The drive-up
setting, which began as a nineteenth century
farm, is now one of the largest retail outlets
for ice cream on the East Coast, perfect for
both post-soccer game celebrations and
quick summer relief. 613 VALLEY ROAD, UPPER MONTCLAIR

TIA’S FOOD OF LOVE
638 BLOOMFIELD AVE., MONTCLAIR

TIASFOODOFLOVE.COM
Whether your Party to Go includes
breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner, the helpful folks at Tia’s Food of Love can arrange for the
equipment rental, entertainment options, bar services and more. And then there’s the wide-
ranging, delectable menu, which includes dishes from veal marsala to orange-scented pound
cake with macerated berries and vanilla bean whipped cream.
Veggie Heaven’s Chinese food offers more
than an alternative to meat-based dishes; the
soups, appetizers and entrees are fragrant and
flavorful choices to diners of every
philosophy. Sure, the tofu with ginger and
scallion sauce is a logical feature of a
vegetarian menu. But the “chicken” and “beef”
dishes are not only credible, but thoroughly
satisfying. The restaurant also offers treats
such as yam fries and crispy sesame seaweed
that, if they aren’t traditional Chinese food
appetizers, ought to be.
