Buzzworthy Upper Montclair NOUVELLE YOUR CLOSET, CURATED NOUVELLE, located in the former site of Murph’s Sports Shop, is the logical extension to Church Street’s One Savvy Design consignment boutique, says Arlene Carrini, who owns both. “I started buying new merchandise for customers who didn’t want consignment, and it evolved into us opening a second location,” she says. The store features fashion, comfort, date and work-wear, with a heavy emphasis on tops, plus some outerwear, leggings, dresses, jewelry and pants. Inventory changes with the seasons, of course; the shop will offer palazzo and harem pants this spring. “I love having something for everybody who walks through the door,” says Carrini. “This is what your closet looks like!” Montclair 578 GRILL 578 Bloomfield Ave. 973-744-1301 NEXT STOP, THE TAQUERIA MEZOCO brings Mexican street food to North Jersey – the Walnut Street train station, specifically, where it has set up shop in the newly refurbished kitchen and dining space shared with the Erie Saloon. But you don’t need to be a commuter, of course, to enjoy the spicy chipotle- crusted steak, chicken, carnitas, vegetable and tofu tacos. Guests can dine in, take out, have meals delivered, or enjoy the savory treats at catered parties. All the corn tortillas are made fresh on site, and the menu is gluten-free. The authenticity of the tacos, as well as the chicken enchiladas, quesadillas and other menu items, is vouched for by investor, Montclair resident and former Southern Californian Dave Placek. Fellow Montclair resident Greg Cuoco, a 20-year food industry MEZOCO veteran, is Executive Chef. Walnut Street Train Station/ 25 Depot Square 973-744-4749 MIDDLE EASTERN MEDLEY “Middle Eastern meets Chipotle.” We can’t improve on the way Alaeddin Homsi, managing partner of 578 GRILL, describes his family- friendly, fast-but-not-fast food place, which occupies the Mediterranea storefront. Its location makes sense, since the Grill’s executive chef is Mediterranea’s manager. “We wanted a fast, casual version of that restaurant,” says Homsi. Customers select base choices such as rice, grains, salad or wrap; build on it from a menu of eight options including meat, veggies and fish; add two toppings including the popular 578 beans, and finish the entree with one of six sauces. Dishes are made to order and are then delivered, both to tables and remotely to customers who order by phone. 14 SPRING 2017 MONTCLAIR MAGAZINE 578 629 Valley Rd. 973-707-5971
