Using an “anti-griddle” set at below zero Fahrenheit, servers combine a crème base with mix-ins such as fruit, Graham crackers, chocolate and green tea, and chop/combine the ingredients with a flat metal spatula. A couple minutes later, they use the implement to fashion the cold confection into ice cream rolls, which they arrange in a cup alone or with toppings. The non-profit MONTCLAIR ORCHESTRA is a new ensemble of area professional musicians, conservatory-level students and highly trained amateurs. The inaugural season, which is expected to kick off in the fall, will feature a full orchestral concert repertoire including traditional classical works, as well as modern pieces and film scores. Music Director David Chan brings a wealth of experience from his position as longtime con- certmaster of the MET Orchestra in New York. Want to hear more? The public is invited to attend an information session at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 12, in the Montclair Public Library auditorium at 50 S. Fullerton Ave. COURTESY OF FIAMMA WOOD FIRED PIZZA was named Millburn’s 2015 Best New Restaurant by our sister publication, Millburn & Short Hills Magazine, and has a much-praised location in Westfield, too. So it’s understandable that owner Charlie Magjuni and his partners would want to open a third outpost in foodie-friendly Montclair. The Bloomfield Avenue locale features the same signature pizza baked in an Acunto wood-fired brick oven from Italy, as well as a full menu including chicken and fish dishes, and meatballs stuffed with homemade mozzarella. The Montclair eatery is the largest of the three Fiammas, with seating for 100 and room for private parties.
