After dining out in New York City, they hit the suburbs – West Orange, to be exact. In this photo, 28 national winners from around the globe pose with Harry Knowles, owner of what was then called the Bow & Arrow Manor; the night’s program included dinner, a miniature pageant, dancing and a tour of the kitchen. Knowles, who at 92 still works every day, has deep roots in Montclair. His father was a Chief of Police here, and Harry lived above Keil’s Pharmacy, worked there, and attended Nishuane School. Three generations of the family are actively involved in the Knowles Hospitality organization, which also owns and operates the nearby Highlawn Pavilion and Pleasantdale Chateau, and Ram’s Head Inn in Galloway. This year, The Manor is celebrating its 60th year of operation. – CINDY SCHWEICH HANDLER 64 MAY 2017 MONTCLAIR MAGAZINE Circa 1964
