A JOYFUL KITCHEN
Bursting with vibrant color, the kitchen further reflects Gottesman’s unique artistic sensibility. “I wanted to include as many colors
as I could get in,” she says. “I didn’t try to match everything. I picked things I liked ,and decided I would make it work.” With a blue and
white linoleum floor, turquoise high-fire tiles below the cabinets, soft yellow walls, dark counters enhanced with flecks of blue, and
warm, reddish-brown wood, the kitchen is a delightful place in which to spend time. Gottesman’s artistry is also reflected in the
cut-out alcoves of the center island where the stools are stored. “I wanted to avoid having just a big, massive block of wood,” she
says. “I wanted to bring some light in there.” She also designed an unusual configuration of drawers in the cabinets, choosing form
over function due to the shallow depth of some of the drawers. The foyer is home to an antique Persian desk, a gift from Gottesman’s
mother, and a vibrant painting from an earlier series. The hallway displays the artist’s three-dimensional pieces and treasured artwork
created by her sons, along with a personally meaningful painting from her student days, when she trained for her creative future. ■
