AN ANIMATED LIVING SPACE The living room is dominated by beautifully upholstered mission furniture countered with an elegant curved chair from a Frenchtown, N.J. auction house. Two drums acquired in the Southwest top the piano, alongside a gourd from Uruguay, and two figures of torsos created by Montclair artists Karen Nielsen Fried and Charlee Swanson. Affixed to the wall is an antique dulcimer found abandoned in a closet of the Amagansett, N.Y. home purchased by Gottesman’s sister. Above left, the space adjoining the living room features an antique quilt centerpiece acquired from Montclair’s American Sampler. With a boldly patterned rug and traditional chair, Gottesman has united unexpected colors and patterns to create a room of both harmony and vitality.
