E D I TO R’S N OT E Brave Brilliant momentS anD aT k e n T p l a c e School preSchool iS the moment when: Shapes become letters. Goodbyes become smiles. Teachers become partners. Doubt becomes discovery. I am thrilled to be taking over as editor of MillburnShort Hills Magazine from the gifted Joanne Fisher. Joanne is leaving the magazine to pursue a full-time writing career. I grew up in Millburn-Short Hills and moved back to town with my husband in 1999 to raise our sons. I worked for many years as a reporter and editor at Business Week, published a memoir/cookbook in 2014 and now teach writing workshops in New York and New Jersey. It is a great pleasure to begin coverage of what is going on in and around our town. In this issue, you will find stories about the celebration of the Hindu holiday DIWALI, the garden and gun control advocacy of resident KEVIN QUINN, the expanding business of blow-dry hair salons, and gain insights into changes in architectural and design trends, based on the observations of local architect TOM BAIO. We’re also covering the biweekly pop-up dinners being offered by CEDAR RIDGE CAFÉ in Maplewood. And be sure to check out the gorgeous renovation, decoration and landscaping of STACI and MITCH BOYARSKY’s home in Short Hills. We live in a beautiful, culturally-rich and intellectually stimulating community. I’m excited to explore it with you. ■ LAURA ZINN FROMM SEND US YOUR STORIES If you know about a new business, notable person or just have your own story you’d like to share, please reach out to us as [email protected].
