Motorsport Mutterings Happy New Year and welcome to the 2017 MGCC Motorsport year . From .. Murray Stephenson
T he calendar for 2017 is very busy including five MSCA Super Sprints , five motorkhanas and four Collingrove Multi-Club hillclimbs for the motorsport championship (“ two stars ”) and five events counting towards the Club Championship (“ one star ”), those being the MSCA Peter Hall Memorial Six Hour , the National Meeting Motorkhana and Sprint ( Adelaide ) and the MG Challenge Sprint and Hillclimb ( Melbourne ). The full calendar is on the website but the first events requiring your attention are detailed below . This calendar will keep the competitors busy for the year but it is also crucial that we have officials and helpers to contribute to the many events . This work is very important and a great way to be involved in the sport at no cost . These include the National Meeting , round 1 motorkhana and the first MSCA Super Sprint . The first events for 2017 for MGCCSA are : Motorkhana Round 1 – Sunday 19 February MG runs this round so we need helpers to set up , time and pack up on the day . Please contact Peter or Murray to offer your services and watch the website for entry forms .
Traditionally we run the Nat Meet courses at this round as it provides an opportunity to familiarise ourselves with these courses prior to the Nat Meet . It ’ s not practice , it ’ s familiarisation ! It is also an opportunity for officials to practise for the Nat Meet and help us to run the Nat Meet motorkhana more smoothly .
Sunday 26 February – MSCA Picnic at Angle Vale This will be held at the Virgara Winery on Heaslip Road Angle Vale with plenty of shade and space for an enjoyable social event and to recognize the class winners from the 2016 Super Sprint season . It ’ s a good opportunity to bring out the MGs for a pleasant drive to Angle Vale and enjoy a picnic lunch ( BYO food and drinks ). The winery will be open and the restaurant may be available , if that ’ s more your thing , but check if you need to book ahead . MGCC won the Clubs ’ display in 2016 with the 1956 theme to mark the club ’ s 60 th birthday and we will be trying again this year .
MSCA Super Sprint Round 1 – Sunday 12 March The first super sprint is one round for which MGCC provides flaggies so your assistance will be sought with this day as well . Round 1 2017 will for the first time in SA include a have a Come & Try component . New sprinters will receive classroom and on track tuition in techniques of car control and sprinting from one-on-one tutors and will par-
