PRESIDENTS REPORT From .. Allan Semmler

March 2017 .
wo years have passed pretty quickly and my term as President is just about up , so this is the last time you will have to put up with my ramblings . Having said that for the most part I have enjoyed my time as your President . It is difficult to single out members who have done more than their bit for the club but I will name a few in no particular order who have helped me over my term .
Past President Leyland George who was always available for advice , IT guru and web page / face book man Peter Coulson for his work on all things IT , Treasurer Alan Cardnell & Sandra , always around to help set up and clean up along with Adrian Ward & Rosa , Dick Manning and Berry Treffers . My thanks to all the committee , Register Co-ordinators , and committee appointed members for their work over the last two years .
Congratulations for a job well done to the national meeting committee headed by Tim Edmonds and our national meeting expert Bev Waters they are getting closer to the pointy end of their work with only ( when you read this ) one month to the event . I am positive this meeting will be a huge success .
Thanks to Geoff Goode for taking on the position of historic registration from Ian Denny who put in many years in that position . Hopefully their work will be a little less arduous later
6 this year with some major changes to the act expected to take effect in the second half of this year .
It was pleasing to see the club premises used a bit more last year with register meetings , film nights and other activities held at the club . Hopefully this will continue in the years to come .
So what challenges lie ahead for the incoming President and his committee : -
( 1 ) Membership is on a very slow decline and the chances of ever hitting the 1000 mark are looking less likely each year . This in turn has an effect on the club ’ s financial position . When I joined the club ( 2006 ) membership stood at around 980 as of January this year that number has fallen to 929 assuming all members pay their subs
( 2 ) I am sure all members are aware the position of interest rates over the last few years has had a marked effect on the return from our fixt term deposit along with ever increasing council rates , telephone , electricity and other fixed expenses all having a detrimental effect on the club finances
( 3 ) The cost of producing and distributing the club magazine consumes a substantial part of the clubs finances I have not seen the results of the survey on your last renewal notice re . printed magazine or the web version
