Yorkshire companies praised
at leading healthcare event
NEW MEMBERS
Affotek (Corporate)
Sheffield-based Affotek produces
quality devices including an epilepsy
alarm - a patented piece of brain
wave based equipment.
Yorkshire is a powerhouse of health
innovation. It has the potential to lead
not just nationally but globally. So it
is vital we have the right conditions in
place to harness this opportunity.
Health is a critically important sector
in the lives of our communities and for
our local economy. The region hosts
the majority of the national NHS bodies,
globally leading med tech and telecare
companies, world leading academics,
and is fast becoming the national
epicentre of health data. The strength of
our assets is unrivalled outside London.
Our cities and towns are leading the way
in health service redesign. Leeds City
Region, Airedale, Calderdale, Wakefield
and Leeds have all been identified as
NHSE Vanguard, Pioneers or Prime
Minister Challenge fund sites. In
Leeds, by harnessing our local clinical,
academic and business strengths, we
have created the first truly integrated
patient record. We are now sharing this
across the country through the NHSE
tech fund Ripple project, creating value
for the NHS and local business.
On health, but also generally, the
Northern Powerhouse has all the
right ingredients and is brimming with
innovation, but we could achieve so
much more if places had a greater say
over budgets and policy. Our future
prosperity depends on our ability to
translate innovative new ideas into new
services and products as quickly and
effectively as possible. This will create
new opportunities and challenges for
us all, but by locating decision making
more closely to local and regional
communities it provides for faster
decisions, which are better tailored
to the needs and aspirations of those
affected by them.
Read the centre feature all about the
Northern Powerhouse on Pages 4-5.
