MEDILINK DELIVERS EXPORT SUCCESS FOR UK COMPANIES

HOW EXPORTING CAN IMPACT ON YOUR BUSINESS
For UK healthcare and life sciences businesses , success in the home market is often the first priority . However , exporting and international trade literally opens up a whole new world of opportunities . Below we hear from two Medilink Yorkshire and Humber members on how exporting has impacted on their business .
ANETIC AID
“ As a business Anetic Aid first started to look at exporting approximately 12 years ago , when we signed up for the UKTI Passport to Export scheme . At the time we unashamedly admit that we really didn ’ t have a clue what we were doing when it came to exporting and we hardly did any international business at all . Today , approximately 25 % of our business is overseas where we export to the US , the Middle East and to Europe .
“ During this time we have always turned to Mediink Yorkshire and Humber and UKTI for advice and guidance when entering potential new markets , which we are still doing today in places such as Mexico and Malaysia . The support from them just makes things much smoother and we know that if we can ’ t get an answer for something then Medilink and UKTI can . If you ’ re in the medical industry and based in the Yorkshire and Humber region , then you should go to Medilink and UKTI .”
Mike Pritchett , International Sales Manager , Anetic Aid
BRENMOOR
“ Export plays an integral role at Brenmoor but it hasn ’ t always been that way . We ’ re relatively new to the export market and just five years ago our international trade made up 3 % of our total sales , whereas now its 30 %.
“ We ’ ve found that selling internationally is all about building relationships . We knew from the start that we wouldn ’ t see an immediate return on investment and instead we would have to keep chipping away at it . After speaking with experienced export support organisations such as Medilink and the Chamber of Commerce we fully expected the first couple of years of international business to be about building brand recognition for Brenmoor , and that ’ s exactly how it transpired . Even with a patented product like our Blood Bag tag ( pictured ), it really was about building awareness of a concept as well as those all-important relationships , that then bear fruit further down the line .”
Michael Moorhouse , Director , Brenmoor
