Maddog 10th Homecoming a
Success
Great football, great fans and even the
weather cooperated most of the day for the 10th
annual Maddog Football Homecoming. Our
hometown Maddogs played host to the Prince
Albert River Riders as the Peewees opened things
up at 1:00. Kim Wall sang “O Canada” to open
the ceremonies while Patti Rowley, our “voice of
the Maddogs”, announced the starting line-ups.
Marty Maddog cheered the players onto the fi eld.
The U of S Huskie kicker Brayden Heck was at
midfi eld to throw out the fi rst pass to the Maddog
player Moe Norsten and the game was offi cially
started. Both the Peewee and Bantam tackle teams
came away with a win. The Peewees won 24-12
while the Bantams had a tally of 12-7.
The highlights of the day were the arrivals
of the Rush Cheerleaders and Rider Alumni Wes
Cates and Gene Makowsky. Marty Maddog got
the crowd cheering for their Maddog teams and
entertained the fans. The Riders were kept busy
signing autographs for most of the day. Members
from the Huskie Football team were also on hand
to sign autographs during the games.
After the Peewee game, the Maddog fl ag
players hit the fi eld, under the guidance of Dave
Dumont, the fl ag coordinator, and played a series of
intersquad games against each other. The Riders,
Team Makowsky and Team Cates each coached one
of the teams as Marty Maddog was key in carrying
the ball for some good yardage. The Huskies also
lent a hand with the young athletes.
This year the Rock 102 Roadsquad and
C95 made an appearance on behalf of Rawlco
Radio. The gals had free draws and give-aways
throughout the day including a trip to Cuba. They
also had a fun football toss game for the kids to
try and played the “Mad Money Machine.” Liam
Markson was the lucky teenager who got to enter
the Mad Money Machine. The day was fun fi lled
with beautiful face art by Fantasy Face painting,
and a bouncy castle by Astro Jump for the kids
while the football fans enjoyed the games. The
Maddogs were also raffl ing off a signed Roughrider
Gene Makowsky Jersey, a signed team Roughrider
football as well as a whole set of tires donated by
Kal Tire. There were also many other sponsored
items to purchase. New to Homecoming this year
was the Pink Cadillac truck that served delicious
milkshakes and treats to the fans and players.
The Maddogs would like to thank BCDR
Mechanical Repair and Agrium for sponsoring
the Riders this year. The homecoming
committee, Allison Noble, Janine Hayward,
Tara Young and the executive also did a
tremendous amount of work to make this day
happen. They would like to thank their other
sponsors; Martensville Messenger, Old Dutch,
Sask Power, Work Safe Saskatchewan, Coop,
Subway, In ‘N Out Pizza, Dollar Store, Affi nity
Credit Union, Boston Pizza, WDM, Sasktel,
Ayotte Plumbing, Pink Cadillac, C95 and Rock
102. Thank you also to the City of Martensville
for their cooperation.
This was also the fi rst time the Maddogs
could make use of their new spotter’s booth. It
is not yet fully completed but announcer Patti
Rowley called her fi rst game from the booth
Saturday at the Homecoming. Special thanks
to Dom Glasser and Glasser and Sons, as well
as Ernie Biggs and Shaughnessy Electric for
their contribution to the building.
The next home games for the Maddogs
are on September 25 when the Titans come to
town. Games start at 1:00 and 3:00 at Geransky
Field. Thanks for supporting the Maddogs.
