On that day, over 3,000 people were killed, including more than 400 police officers and firefighters. On Sunday, September 11 at 6:36am members of the Martensville Fire Department gathered and raised a United States and Canadian flag to half-mast to pay tribute to the men and women who bravely gave their lives in the line of duty on that tragic day fifteen years ago. A member appreciation supper was held next to the Affinity Credit Union in Martensville Wednesday, September 7. The event is held annually to show their appreciation for the support that is received from Martensville and surrounding area members and from the community in general. This year, over 200 people attended and enjoyed the pulled pork sandwiches. “We were very pleased with the weather, the attendance, and that Allison’s Scoop Ice Cream could join us in providing treats to everyone who came out,” Tony Korol, Affinity Credit Union Branch Manager, stated. Through the donations that were made by those that attended the event, Affinity Credit Union was able to raise $292.45 for the United Way. “Our thanks goes out to the City of Martensville for providing us access to tables and chairs at no cost, and to our members, local citizens and businesses for supporting Affinity Credit Union again this year. We are extremely happy to be a part of this great community,” Korol added.
