Popular Soccer Programs Require More
Field Space in Martensville
Shanine Sealey, Martensville Messenger
If you have recently made your way towards the Martensville Sports Centre, you may have noticed there is
lots of action taking place in the soccer pitch located beside the arena. A much needed restoration is currently underway
through a partnership between the City of Martensville and the Martensville Soccer Association.
This joint venture has been in the works for the past year, as the current field has not been overly playable in
terms of condition and was mostly used for practices rather than actual games. “Once the project is complete, it will be a
crown field with proper drainage, automatic irrigation system and have sod installed,” Dave Bosch, City of Martensville
Recreation Director explained.
The project will be complete this year, and work began once the 2016 soccer season was complete, so not to
interrupt the use of the field for practices. During the planning stages, it was decided that this would be a fall project, with
the field complete for use for the 2017 season.
“This will give us another quality pitch in the community for soccer. The soccer association was happy to team
up with the City on this venture, as soccer continues to grow in Martensville and more quality space is required,” Bosch
continued. “This project has been something we have discussed for the past year and it will be nice once completed. The
pitch will be a first class field once complete.”
