MFD Accept Glitter Tattoo Challenge for Breast Cancer Shanine Sealey, Martensville Messenger Maizie Bowkowy, known also as ‘Princess Maizie’, has had a busy month. Starting through a fundraiser with her cheerleading team, Maizie decided to offer glitter tattoos of the breast cancer ribbon to people, with proceeds from the tattoos going to the C95 Radio Breast Cancer Marathon. In just 13 days, Maizie managed to sell a total of 355 tattoos, totalling an incredible $710 that was donated to the fundraiser Friday, October 21st at Lawson Heights Mall. “I’m overwhelmed with the support I received on my campaign from the many businesses and the wonderful families that invited me into their homes and shared their stories with me and to the many, many people who came out to get a tattoo and raise awareness and money for the C95 Radio Breast Cancer Marathon,” Maizie stated through her Facebook page, ‘Your Everyday Princess”. While making their donation, Princess Maizie and Princess Chloe tattooed Rob and Shauna with C95 on the Pink Warrior stage. Maizie has always had a passion for helping others, and explained what her motivation for selling the breast cancer ribbon glitter tattoos is. “Well, my second home, Warman Ultimate Cheerleading, has raised money every October for breast cancer for as long as I can remember. However, what is my fuel? Meeting and talking with all the women, men and children in OUR community who have been touched by this devastating cancer. I WILL tattoo this pink ribbon until my fingers fall off, if that means; another woman, man or child won’t have to face this horrible disease,” Princess Maizie stated. Part of her fundraiser was specifically targeting men, because it makes a statement when people notice that a man is wearing a pink glittery ribbon tattoo. Princess Maizie also wanted to spread awareness that breast cancer isn’t just a disease that affects women, as 220 men will be diagnosed and 60 men will die from this disease in Canada this year. On Wednesday, October 19th, Princess Maizie and Princess Chloe visited the Martensville Fire Hall and tattooed 18 members of the Martensville fire Department. Maize had custom stencils that were donated by Modern Memories – Custom Creations created for the fire department. Princess Maizie has no plans on stopping yet, as she will continue to tattoo for the remainder of the month. For information on Maizie, visit www.facebook.com/ Princessmaizie.
