Ashryla Boutique Hits the Runway

Martensville resident Tammy Leonew , owner / operator of Ashryla Boutique , was recently chosen to participate in the Saskatoon Fashion and Design Festival ( SFDF ) Runway Show . The SFDF runway show will be a two night event , taking place November 5th and 6th that showcases local designers , boutiques , dancers , musicians and visual artists . This year marks the 5th year for the event and will take place in the Adam Ballroom of the Bessborough Hotel .
Leonew , who came up with the creative business name Ashryla ’ s Boutique by combining her two children ’ s names , will be showcasing her line on Sunday . This is the first time Leonew has her designs on the runway since beginning the business in 2012 . For the past two years , Leonew has been designing full time after the business continued to grow in popularity and demand continued to increase . When asked how the business began , Leonew stated , “ I don ’ t feel like it was even a conscious decision , but it ’ s always been something I have gravitated towards . I started designing and sewing outfits when I was around 8 or 9 years old , so I guess it has always been an interest of mine .” After starting out on a different path through education and work , Leonew then became a stay-at-home mom for several years before realizing how much she missed designing , thus creating Ashryla Boutique .
Throughout the years , there have been numerous moments that have stood out to Leonew , and as the business continues to grow , those moments become more and more frequent . In 2013 , Ashryla Boutique was runner-up in an entrepreneur contest hosted by the Centre Mall , and this Spring , the Ashryla Boutique bridal collection was featured in the May issue of Hitched Wedding Magazine . Currently , Leonew has her bags available for purchase in three Saskatoon stores ; Alchemy Salon & Spa , Hen and Chick Studios and The Whimsy Store .
Leonew has been involved with SFDF since this past spring , when she was chosen as a marketplace vendor for their event , SFDF POSE . “ For the past 5 years , SFDF has hosted two yearly events , one in spring and one in fall . They each include a runway show featuring local designers and boutiques , as well as entertainment , and a vendor marketplace . Several weeks ago , they contacted me about showing a collection at their fall event , and I am so excited about the opportunity ,” Leonew explained . “ To prepare , I still need to choose models for the show , and I will be working with stylist Kate Matthews to create an overall look for each model .” Ashryla Boutique will also be a vendor at the Sundog Arts & Entertainment Faire December 2-4 at Sasktel Centre .
