Page 6 - nOvemBer 3, 2016 - martensville messenger Information may not be current due to submission deadline The Calgary Stampeders fell just short of the greatest season in CFL history. Calgary went into week 19 one win short of a tie for the most wins in a single season and in order to get the record they had to beat the last place Montreal Alouettes. The Stamps opted to start their second string quarterback Drew Tate, who has started many games for Calgary but lost his starting spot after injuries. Tate was less than average in his start throwing 2 interceptions and 218 yards. Rakeem Cato came in after rookie quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. was taken out due to injury in the second quarter. Cato was able to keep the Allouettes ahead and earned the win to play spoiler against the Stampeders by a score of 17-8. Saturday was the Roughriders last game at the old Mosaic Stadium and it was one to remember - not for the score however, as the Riders were pummeled by the Lions 24-6. The Riders just couldn’t get a rhythm going and that was partly due to the fact that Coach Chris Jones was alternating quarterbacks for the whole game. No one on the fi eld was able to get comfortable and it showed in their play as Saskatchewan was unable to score a touchdown on route to their 12th loss this season. On Friday Edmonton beat Hamilton by a score of 29-26 to improve to 9-8 for the season. Ottawa moved back to 500 with a 23-10 victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. RedBlacks quarterback Henry Burris threw for an impressive 338 yards while Bombers QB Matt Nichols threw for 289 yards and 3 interceptions. My picks are 37-14 on the year heading into the fi nal week of the season. My picks are Ottawa, Hamilton, Edmonton, and BC. One of the two longest World Series droughts will come to an end this year as the Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians face off in the best-of-seven Crossword answers Championship series. The Indians have not won a World Series in 68 years. The second longest are the Cubs who haven’t won it in 108 years. The Cubs have the longest championship drought in any professional sport but hope to leave that record behind. As of Monday October 31st, Cleveland is leading the series 3-2 and are headed home for game 6 and 7 if necessary. The Indians Andrew Miller has already set the new playoff strikeout record for a relief pitcher with 29 already and still a possible two games to go.
