Choc ’ LaCure Fundraising Event Ciara O ’ Reilly , Martensville Messenger

A group of business students from Saskpolytechnic are looking for your support in their upcoming fundraising event . All proceeds received from this event will be going directly towards the Choc ’ laCure campaign . Choc ’ laCure is a non-profit organization which has been very successful in the past . Over the course of just nine years , this organization has raised over $ 1,890,000 and all proceeds have been donated to the Saskatoon Cancer Centre . The money gained goes towards equipment and software needed in radiation and chemotherapy treatments . This campaign is currently aspiring to fund Advanced Medical Imaging and Treatment Planning with a two year goal of raising $ 550,000 . Choc ’ laCure is a movement which focuses on giving Saskatchewan residents the best quality of cancer treatments , which in turn benefits many families across the province . Mulberry ’ s Café will play host to this supper worthwhile event this upcoming December 1st . A Steak Night dinner will be available followed by a silent auction for donations of just $ 20 . There will also be 50 / 50 tickets available as well as a door prize draw . These ambitious business students need your support in order to make this fundraising event successful . Local Lions Club Participates in Wilderness Experience Shanine Sealey , Martensville Messenger

Members of the Martensville Lions Club participated in the annual Wilderness Experience this past August . According to the website , the Wilderness Experience is for anybody , any age , from any walk of life , who copes with personal challenges or special needs and is sponsored by the Lions Club . The camp takes place each August at the Northern Lights Lodge in Deschambault Lake , SK .
“ Caregivers , clients and Lions from all over the province and western Manitoba converge on Northern Lights Lodge for two weeks of fishing , camping in the cabins , campfires , fish frys , pancake breakfasts and an enjoyable experience for all ,” Doug Ward of the Martensville Lions Club stated . Each group comes for a total of four days , where they are able to take part in various activities and meet new friends .

Hamilton Man Arrested in Connection With Warman Elementary School Incident

The Hamilton ( Ontario ) Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit ( ICE ), working in conjunction with Warman RCMP and the Saskatchewan RCMP ICE Unit , has arrested 35 year old Robert Sowell of Hamilton , ON for allegedly communication with Saskatchewan minors online . On November 2 , 2016 RCMP released a statement explaining that they were investigating a complaint that had been filed regarding a possible inappropriate conversation taking place between an adult and a youth . Upon further investigation , Warman RCMP discovered that other youth at Warman Community Middle School may have also had contact with the same male . The RCMP worked together with the Prairie Spirit School Division to ensure that all parents were aware of the incident and could speak to their children regarding safety when it comes to using social media sites and the internet .
Hamilton Police ’ s ICE Unit worked together with the local RCMP and linked the username that had been used to a Hamilton address . Warman RCMP were first notified that there was an individual luring and engaging a number of children online under the name “ Whoami30000 .” Members of the ICE Unit , along with uniformed officers attended the address with a search warrant on November 16th and seized various electronic devices .
Sowell is facing charges including ; Luring a Child Under 14 Years ( sec . 172.1CC ), Making Sexually Explicit Material Available to a Child ( sec . 171.1 CC ), Possession of Child Pornography ( sec . 163.1 ( 4 ) CC ) and three counts of Failure to Comply with a Recognizance ( sec . 145 ( 3 ) CC ).

The RCMP urges parents to monitor their children ’ s on-line activity and offers the following guidelines . Social Media / Online Safety Tips for Parents :

• Teach your teen that anything they post online can be public , and it takes effort to make it private .
• Talk casually to your teen about their online activity , so the topic becomes a regular part of your conversations . Monitor activities regularly .
• Search your teen ’ s name using popular search engines , blogs , and social network platforms to see what comes up on their public record . Treat online life like regular life .
• Don ’ t say anything online that you wouldn ’ t say to someone ’ s face .
• Create , post , and share videos , images and content responsibly .
• Monitor your online reputation carefully — it is public and will follow you for life . Protect your privacy online .
• Avoid oversharing ( r e v e a l i n g inappropriate details / images about your life ).
• Keep personal
information private ( e . g . your name , age , social insurance number , address …)
• Check and adjust privacy settings regularly .

Mikes with cocktails at 6:30pm and supper at 7:00pm - The Lions Club is to provide funding to help start Air Cadet Squadron in Martensville
