MSA Presents to City Council Shanine Sealey , Martensville Messenger

During the November 15th Martensville City Council meeting , Jaimie Doell , President of the Martensville Soccer Association ( MSA ), presented Council with a cheque , and updated them on soccer within the community . This fall , the soccer pitch located in Chrome Dome Park beside the Martensville Sports Centre , was dug up and resurfaced , an upgrade that was desperately needed according to Doell . The MSA was pleased to see the development take place , as before the upgrades , drainage issues were a common problem . “ It is devastating to see the kids running around in their rubber boots due to the conditions of the fields ,” Doell stated .
The upgrades were done through a partnership between the MSA and the City of Martensville . This joint venture had been in the works for the past year , as the previous field had not been playable in terms of condition and had been used for practices , rather than games . The field was dug out and redone with proper drainage , an automatic irrigation system and new sod installed , and is now complete and ready for the 2017 season . “ This gives us another quality pitch in the community for soccer . The soccer association was happy to team up with the City on this venture , as soccer continues to grow in Martensville and more quality space is required ,” Dave Bosch , Director of Recreation and Community Services for the City of Martensville , explained .
Doell explained that she was happy to see the field get finished , and suggested that Martensville requires even more fields as she has had to turn away more than thirty children this year alone . Doell noted that Martensville currently has approximately 200 children playing soccer indoors throughout the winter , and throughout the summer the number increases , with a total of 250 to 350 children between ages 4 and 15 signing up . “ New fields would not go to waste . The kids love soccer and I have no problem filling two courts full of kids at the MAP six nights of the week ,” Doell , who is also on the board for the Valley Soccer Association , stated . Doell explained that soccer is gaining popularity in many local communities , with Warman beginning an indoor soccer season for the first time this winter .
At the Council meeting , Doell presented the City of Martensville with a cheque for $ 51,307.50 , which helps to offset the cost of upgrading the field . The MSA raised the money through various forms of fundraising , and had been saving money to use towards upgrading the field for the past six years . “ We worked closely with the City ’ s recreation and parks department to make this happen . It ’ s really nice to see it become a reality ,” Doell added . With the upgrades now complete on one field , Doell explained that the MSA still has plans to continue raising money for further upgrades , including the addition of bleachers , and constructing a second shed .
