The Maddog Football teams held their annual Awards day on November 14 at the Canalta Hotel . President Janine Hayward started with the Peewee tackle awards and spoke about some of the highlights for the Maddog year . This was the eleventh year for the Maddogs since its inception and Hayward was proud of where the organization has come . “ This is a great organization because of the wonderful volunteers ,” commented Hayward . One of the highlights was the continued use of the new clubhouse for the third year that made things run so much more smoothly . Special mention was also made to Dom Glasser ( Glasser and Sons ) and Ernie Biggs ( Shaughnessy Electric ) for their hard work on our new spotter ’ s booth . This will make more storage for field equipment and make home games easy to set up . The clock is directly connected to the booth so scorekeeping will be much easier .

Clint Schachtel and their coaching staff had each of the players come up before the main awards to highlight some of their great achievements throughout the season . Both teams showed so much improvement through the season . The coaches commented on the dedication the players had to practices and games and that was the reason for their success and improvement . Each Peewee player received a team trophy and each Bantam player was awarded a Maddog Yearbook . Thanks to Donna Crockett for all her help with the yearbooks this year .
The Maddogs hosted three home games for the Bantam tackle team and three for the Peewee team . This would not have been possible without all of the help from the parents .
The Homecoming was also successful again this year . A big highlight of the Homecoming was the appearances of both C95 and Rock 102 at the event . They brought with them the Money Machine
The first week of the CFL playoffs are in the books and the crossover team is headed to the East Final . The Edmonton Eskimos hit a last second field goal to overcome a late surge from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats . Zach Collaros and the Ti-Cats came back from 12 points behind to tie the game at 21 with just four minutes left in the game . Collaros was driving for the win when Edmonton linebacker Kenny Ladler intercepted his pass and returned it to Hamilton ’ s 20 yard line . Edmonton would then kick the field goal to seal the win . The Eskimos are looking to be the first crossover team to make it to the Grey Cup and the Ottawa RedBlacks are the only team standing in their way . The Eskies hope to have Quarterback Mike Reilly back for their game on Sunday as he left the Semi-Final with his non-throwing shoulder in a sling after taking a big hit in the fourth quarter . In the West Semi-Final the BC Lions came back from a 10 point deficit in the fourth quarter to defeat the Winnipeg Blue Bombers by a score of 32-31 . Both Matt Nichols and Jonathon Jennings threw for over 300 yards and two touchdowns . The Lions are moving on to play the powerhouse Calgary Stampeders in the West Final this Sunday .
The NHL Hall of Fame Induction ceremonies for 2016 were held Monday night . The four people inducted had waited patiently after their careers to be recognized for their achievements . Especially

to entertain the crowd . It was very entertaining watching Roughrider Alumni Gene Makowsky and Wes Cates helped the flag kids play between tackle games . “ Our numbers were up in our flag program which will help with our future Peewee numbers ,” commented Janine Hayward , Maddog President . Special mention also goes out to Dave Dumont for his hard work with the flag program . The flag teams were also fortunate to have the Bantam players help them run through drills this year to start their season off . They were great role models .
“ I would like to take this time to thank our hard working executive who work year round to keep this club running .” commented Hayward . “ The coaches and managers also put in endless hours and their efforts are appreciated .”
The Maddogs would also like to thank everyone who supported their football raffle once again . This year the money went towards
Philadelphia Flyers ’ great , Eric Lindros , who waited until his sixth year of eligibility before being inducted . Joining Lindros was Sergei Makarov and Rogie Vachon in the players category , and the late great Pat Quinn in the builders category .
The Toronto Blue Jays are trying to stop a total roster changeup and attempting to hang on to their slugging duo of Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion . Bautista is coming off an injury plagued season with 22 home runs and 69 RBI ’ s . Bautista underperformed in the postseason with just 2 home runs , 5 RBI ’ s and just a . 182 batting average . Encarnacion on the other hand is coming off a career year with 42 home runs and 127 RBI ’ s . In the playoffs Encarnacion smacked 3 home runs and 9 RBI ’ s while hitting a . 286 average . The Blue Jays extended qualifying offers to both players and both rejected the 17.5 million dollar offers . Bautista is reportedly asking for 35 million dollars a year and the Jays just don ’ t know if they can pay that much for a 36-year-old hitter who has had recent injury trouble . Encarnacion is looking for the same kind of money and the Boston Red Sox are very interested after the retirement of their designated hitter and future hall of famer David Ortiz . Talks will continue and Jays fans are hoping they can bring back at least one of their franchise players .
