The two communities have had an ongoing friendly rivalry for years, and the respective Mayors of each City have decided to have a little fun of their own. Martensville Mayor Kent Muench and Warman Mayor Sheryl Spence have upped the stakes by instilling a challenge. The losing team’s Mayor will be required to wear the winning team’s jersey throughout their next City Council meeting. Warman’s next Council meeting will take place November 14, and Martensville’s next City Council meeting will be November 15. “It’s a friendly challenge between the two mayors to raise awareness for what is two great schools and two great football programs. We are extremely lucky to have the dedicated staff, volunteers, and students to put so much effort into the programs. It is a great opportunity to give them a little extra support for what are great accomplishments,” Mayor Muench stated. This is the second season that the Martensville Royals have made a playoff run, after earning a spot in the playoffs for the first time last season. The Wolverines are the defending champions from the 2015 3A nine-man provincials. “A special congratulations for making it to the provincial finals for the first time on their brand new Wilson Field. I wish the Royals all the best on Saturday! You’ve made us all very proud,” Mayor Muench added.
