The CFL regular season has come to an end and Saskatchewan Roughrider fans couldn ’ t wait any longer . The Riders final game basically summed up the whole season for the team , not good . Sasky took a big loss to the BC Lions by a score of 41-18 . Now the Rider fans look forward to the signing of quarterback Darian Durant , some hoping that he will stay with the team , some wanting him to retire . In my eyes Durant is the only thing holding the Riders together and without him their team would be a mess . If the Riders want to bring fans into their brand new stadium and make a playoff push they need Darian Durant . As the rest of the games finished up , the playoff picture became clear . The Edmonton Eskimos beat the Toronto Argonauts , 41-17 and clinched the cross over position to the east . Montreal defeated the Hamilton Tiger-cats 32-25 in a pride game for the Allouettes who finish the season 7-11 in third place in the east . Winnipeg spoiled Ottawa ’ s hopes at a . 500 record with a 33-20 win . The RedBlacks still finished first in the East and are the first team ever to win their division with more losses than wins . Headed into the playoffs , the first round has the 10-8 Eskimos crossing over to play the 7-11 Hamilton Ti-Cats in the East Division Semi-Final . In the West Semi-Final , it ’ s the 11-7 Bombers taking on the 12-6 BC Lions . Winners will play against Ottawa in the East and Calgary in the West . After a stellar regular season , my predeiction for the playoffs is that Calgary will defeat the Bombers in the West final . The Stamps will then move on to win it all , beating the Edmonton Eskimos in an all Alberta Grey Cup Championship .
The Montreal Canadiens are the number one team in the NHL right now but their only regulation loss came in historic fashion . Montreal decided to give Carey Price the night off against the Columbus Blue Jackets , bad idea . The Blue Jackets lit up goaltender Al Montoya on route to a 10-0 shutout of the best team in the league . This was the largest shutout victory in Blue Jackets history and tied a Canadiens record for worst shutout in their history .
The Chicago Cubs are World Series Champions for the first time in 108 years ! The Cubs came back from a 3-1 series deficit to force game 7 against the Cleveland Indians , and what a game 7 it was . Chicago was sitting pretty after a lead-off home run by Dexter Fowler in the first . After the Cubs scored 2 runs in both the 4th and 5th innings they had a 5-1 lead . In the bottom half on the inning the Indians scored two runs off a wild pitch and it looked as if momentum had swung to the home team . The Cubs veteran catcher David Ross answered in the next inning with a solo home run to restore the 3 run lead . Chicago ran into trouble in the 8th when former Blue Jay Rajai Davis tied the game with a huge home run . The game would need extra innings and after a rain delay the Cubs came out hitting , stringing together 5 hits in the inning and scoring 2 runs . Cleveland tried their darndest but only managed one run . That was it , Chicago Cubs , 2016 World Series Champions .

ABOVE : There was lots of action at the MAP when the Junior Girls volleyball team was host to conference playoffs on the weekend . MHs Conference silver Medalists

The MHS Junior Girls volleyball team hosted conference playoffs at the MAP this weekend and were silver medalists . This year the team had 14 players and the coaches Sarah Shepherd and Quelsa-An Oliver were happy with their caliber of play . " Having a group of strong athletes in grade nine allowed us coaches to push them to play as a senior level team ", commented Shepherd .
Their goal was to provide them with a higher level of play to prepare them for the senior team and also club teams in the future . The playoffs were a 5 team round robin draw . Dalmeny , Rosthern , Hepburn and Warman travelled to Martensville to compete . The MHS Girls finished their round robin in second place and played Warman in the semi round of the playoffs . They earned a spot in the final against Dalmeny who finished first in the pool . The Royals had a good fight posting scores of 25-23 and 25-19 , but the undefeated Dalmeny were conference champions . Martensville played well and brought home the silver .
The coaches would like to thank everyone for a great year and they are grateful for the supportive parents who drove to all of the games and tournaments . " It ' s great to have the support of the community behind the team ", commented Shepherd .
