proposing asphalt improvements and explaining the cost associated with it .
Dalmeny resident , Wade Klassen , represented a group of citizens
One of their largest concerns is that Council would make a decision to go ahead with the project without the residents getting a chance to decide if they want to pay for it . Klassen and his group want the entire process to be out in the open and
There would be no federal , provincial or RM grants that could be applied for , for the proposed improvements . The town would be responsible for 33 % of the cost . The rest of the cost would be based on homeowners ’ street frontage . There would also be flanking costs if the homeowners ’ land backed onto the paved street .
Many concerned citizens took the opportunity to speak at a microphone set to express their concern . The homeowners are angry that the street maintenance was not kept up , and that there is no reserve set aside for this paving project . They believe that the higher taxes this would incur would damage their property value . They told stories of people choosing not to move to Dalmeny based on this proposed tax hike . They are very concerned that they already pay the highest amount of tax compared to surrounding communities .
No conclusions were reached but a petition was available to be signed . For more information on the Town of Dalmeny ’ s plans , please visit www . dalmeny . ca .
