Shanine Sealey, Martensville Messenger The Buster Days Committee officially wrapped up the annual event by presenting donations to various service groups and organizations in Martensville last week. An incredible donation of $10,000 was donated to the Martensville Community Recreation Project Tuesday, June 21st, along with a total of $9600 being donated in various amounts to; Martensville High School Scholarship, Slo-Pitch, the Martensville Library, Skate Martensville, Soccer Association, Martensville Curling Club, Sask Five Giants, Martensville Information & Visitor Centre, Martensville Girl Guides, Alliance Church, New Horizon’s Senior Centre, Mission Church, Neighborhood Church, Project Change and Voyage Club. All groups that received donations volunteered throughout the Buster Days weekend to receive the money. Martensville Buster Days was held June 3rd to June 5th, and was a great success despite the blustery wind. This year, the Committee was excited to bring in some new attractions/ highlights for the weekend event including sky writing, a one man band, a petting zoo and more. Due to the extreme and unpredictable wind, the sky divers were forced to cancel at the last minute. The addition of more food trucks was a huge hit, along with the Family Night Out, with a Nerf Gun Fight at the MAP. This year was also the biggest Market & Craft Fair that has been held to date. “The event was a great success, despite the wind. We had great attendance and people were still able to take everything in,” Angie Reddekopp, City of Martensville recreation Program Supervisor, explained. Currently, the Buster Days Committee is looking at bringing in a new main attraction other than Flyboarding for next year, and encourages anyone with ideas to contact them. “When it comes to community events like this, input from the people in the community is vital. We will also bring back all of the great entertainment that everyone enjoys from year to year,” Reddekopp added. With Buster Days being one of the biggest community events held in Martensville throughout the year, it is important to ensure the community is involved as much as possible. The success from the event is dependent on sponsorship and through event revenue. “We definitely need the community on board in order to make this event happen,” stated Reddekopp. The Buster Days Committee, which currently consists of 14 people, is always looking for more people to join and contribute their ideas to the popular event. If you are interested in joining, or looking for more information, contact Joanna at (306) 683-5575, or [email protected]. The Committee would like to give a special thank you to all of the 2016 Buster Days sponsors including Title Sponsors; City of Martensville and Mr. Asphalt, Gold Sponsors; Canadian Tire, Catterall & Wright, Winmar and the Martensville Messenger, Silver Sponsors; Sask Lotteries, Poly Plus Insulators, North Ridge Development, North Prairie Development and Lakeview Insurance. 421 Ce Happy C Saturday 9:00 am - 5: Tuesday - Friday 9:00
