The group is asking parents to sign the online petition to “ bring back our frontline classroom staff for the 2016-2017 school year .” The petition has attracted 700 signatures as of June 24 , 2016 . The group has also compiled a letter summarizing relevant information about the budget cuts and the petition group : “ In addition to support services EAs provide to children with diverse learning and behavioural needs , here is a list of some of the programs and services for all children that will be affected : literacy groups , math tutoring groups , sight word practice , behavioural
The group places a focus on how these cuts affect every student , not just ones who access support services . Without the help and support of these integral staff members , all students will notice a difference in the classroom in the fall .
Parents can raise awareness and make a difference by doing a few things : signing the online petition , joining the Facebook page , and contacting the Minister of Education , the Director of Education , the Premier of Saskatchewan , and / or your local MLA .

Do You Have An Open Building Permit ?

There are currently many open building permits waiting for confirmation that the work has been completed . Over the next few months , the City of Martensville will be performing an educational blitz to all property owners regarding the possibility that there might be open building permits for their property and assisting them to close those permits . The National Building Code ( NBC ) contains a minimum set of standards for construction for the safety of the occupants and the structure itself and , therefore , it is important to complete all permits in a timely fashion to protect your family and investment . Further to this , the NBC places the onus on the property owner to ensure all outstanding work is completed and the required inspection ( s ) have been concluded . Permits stay with a property , they do not follow the builder or previous property owner .
How could there be open permits remaining on your property ?
Sometimes permit inspections are not completed . This could be due to forgetting to call for an inspection or the work was never fully completed . As a property owner , please ensure that all building inspections for permits on your property are carried out in a timely manner . A final inspection is always required , whether for a minor permit such as a deck or basement finishing , or a major permit to construct a dwelling or commercial building . When purchasing a property or having work completed on your property , it is important to ask for copies of the inspections detailing the permit closure .
What will happen if there is a building permit that has not received the final inspection , or due to unforeseen constraints caused a project to be dormant for a year or more ?
The City is organizing this educational blitz to make property owners aware that they may have permits that are still deemed to be incomplete . With this , the City is providing property owners the opportunity to complete the outstanding work and close the permits . Failure to close permits can have an impact on the potential resale of the property , remortgaging the property or the safety of those occupying the building . The law provides for outstanding work to be completed in a timely fashion and failure to do so could result in a notice listing outstanding work to be is registered on the property title at ISC at the property owner ’ s expense , and in severe situations , a judge can issue fines . Older permits might also be subject to more stringent code requirements as new codes are adopted .
How do I proceed when I find out I have outstanding permits for my property ?
If you have an open permit for a project that is only a year old , you may only need to request a permit extension in writing .
If your project is older than a year old , it is considered expired . You will want to email the City to find out the current status of the permit and to receive details on how to close your permit .
If you had a contractor or builder performing the work and the work is complete , this does not ensure a final inspection was requested , or that all final deficiencies were confirmed to be complete . Therefore , the permit could be open and outstanding .
If you are unsure if there are outstanding permits , please email permits @ martensville . ca to confirm the status of all permits for your property . Further , prior to purchasing any property , a Building Information Abstract ( BIA ) or Property Information Disclosure ( PID ) listing all outstanding permits can be requested from the City .
Do inspections cost money ?
When the original permit was paid for , a set number of inspections were included in the value . Therefore , the required inspections associated with the permit are free . Although rare , when permits require multiple additional inspections , there may be a cost associated with the extra inspections .
With this blitz , the City will be conducting the following :
1 . The department will continue to check records for property owners who apply for new permits to make sure they don ’ t have any outstanding open permits .
2 . Letters to property owners will be sent or dropped off notifying them that there are open building permits for their property . A copy of the last available inspection will be included along with information on how to proceed . These letters will arrive from either the City of Martensville or BuildTECH . Information for the property owner on how to proceed will be included .
