Strelau Sets Record

Martensville ’ s Shawn Strelau was on fire in Waskesui June 13 and 14 at the annual Conexus Men ’ s Lobstick Open when he posted a course record of 63 the first day , which was 7 under par . “ This was pretty special to me seeing as I finished the round without any bogeys , which is very rare anywhere ,” commented Strelau . The previous course record was 64 . Strelau would narrowly hold on to the lead with second place finisher , Shaun Dunphy close on his heels . Dunphy needed to sink an 8 foot putt to force Strelau into a playoff situation . The putt didn ’ t fall and Strelau was the 2016 Conexus Lobstick Champion with a two day total of 137 .
This was Strelau ’ s second “ Open ” win . He posted his first win in the Prince Albert Open in 2014 . He currently plays most of his golf out of the Legends in Warman . Congratulations to Shawn Strelau , the Lobstick Champion of 2016 .
In the Match Play event at the Lobstick , 19 year old Ty Campbell set another course record . He defeated Warren Gnam of Medicine Hat in the final round of match play to win the tournament . He set a record , winning the Junior Lobstick the year previously and now the Men ’ s match play . This has never been done before in the tournament .

The Golden State Warriors record breaking season has finally come to an end and not in the way they had hoped . LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers are the 2016 NBA Champions after defeating Steph Curry and the Warriors in seven games . It didn ’ t look good for the Cavs early in the series as they were down 3-1 against the best team in the league . No team had ever come back from a 3-1 series deficit in the NBA Finals until now . Cleveland battled back to force game 7 in Golden State and on Sunday June 19th the Cavs defeated the defending Champs 93-89 . This ended Cleveland ’ s 52-year drought without a championship . The Cavs were led by playoff MVP LeBron James who recorded only the third triple double in a game 7 in NBA Finals history scoring 27 points , 11 assists , and 11 rebounds .
News coming out of the NHL recently is that the league will be expanding . Before the 2017-18 season the NHL will be introducing a team based out of Las Vegas . Many reports say they will be called the Aces but there is no official word on what the team name is . There was also some talk of another Canadian team joining the NHL possibly out of Quebec City . However , it has been said that with the Canadian dollar being so low right now it would cost a huge amount for Quebec City to join . Sorry Nordique fans but you ’ ll have to wait a little longer .
Week one of the CFL season kicks off on Thursday when the Hamilton Tiger- Cats take on the Toronto Argonauts in Toronto . With the pre-season tuneups all complete I think it is safe to say the Green and White might be in for another tough season . They lost both pre-season games to the Lions and to the Eskimos . Darian Durant made his first start on Saturday against Edmonton and went 11 / 19 for 153 yards which seems like not a bad start . However , he was unable to complete a touchdown pass and tossed up two interceptions . On the other side of the field Eskimos quarterback Mike Reilly completed 8 / 9 passes for 132 yards and a touchdown . The Riders run game was stymied as they could only manage 50 yards on the ground . The offence as a whole struggled with little help from the defence . Saskatchewan gained a total of 305 yards to Edmontons ’ 543 . The Riders have a bye this week but will hit the field June 30th for their first game of the Farewell Season to Mosaic Stadium against the Toronto Argonauts at 8:00pm in Regina .
