Lacie Munholland , Martensville Messenger The communities of Martensville and Warman have come together to raise money for the local KidSport™ organization . The students of Industrial Arts 30 at Martensville High School worked hard on designing and built a playhouse to auction off as a KidSport™ fundraiser in this month . The students have been working since the beginning of the 2015 school year on the playhouse , dedicating time to work on the playhouse one to two periods a day , as well as any spare time they had .
Over the course of the project , over 50 kids will have contributed to the project in some way or another : design , building , painting , etc . The playhouse design consists of mixed material , giving the students the ability to gain experience working with different material : siding , paint , and drywall .
Martensville Building & Supply are sponsoring the project , donating the material for the project . “ This is a great way to involve the students of Martensville High School in helping out with the need and giving them a sense of pride when everyone comments on how wonderful it looks . A & W is really proud to be associated with the High School – we have gotten to know the students working on the project and it ’ s fun all around .” said Martensville A & W Manager Dorothy Ens .

Martensville Resident Talks Racing For the Cure

Lacie Munholland , Martensville Messenger
Neil Schneider is a strong believer in raising awareness , along with raising funds . Schneider is part of the Shell V Power Sportsman ’ s Division racing group . The group is preparing for the annual Race for the Cure at Wyant Group Raceway , the raceway the group calls home . This is the second year the racing group have been involved in Race for the Cure : “ We ’ re happy we ’ re able to help bring it back to life ” commented Schneider . The cars raced are the “ Canadian version of Nascar and will be coming from Saskatchewan , Alberta , and Manitoba to compete ,” commented Schneider . The cars make 100 laps , higher than the average 50-70 laps in a regular race .
Schneider has chosen to represent leukemia and will be wearing an orange coloured shirt . Schneider wants people to not just associate cancer with the colour pink . In actuality , lavender is representative of all cancers , while various other colours can raise awareness to different types of cancer . Each driver and crew chief will sport an appropriately coloured shirt that will be auctioned off later in the evening .
Schneider was able to spend time with a little girl undergoing leukemia treatments , which was an eye-opening experience .

The Sportsman group had a steak night fundraiser and will be able to provide needed items like toys and reclining chairs to the local Cancer society .
Schneider is excited for this year ’ s race , “ there are a lot of really cool things up for auction . Our grand marshal this year is Rick Elliot who has been involved in the Saskatoon Stock Racing Club for many years . Last year the goal was to raise $ 5,000 , while we ultimately raised $ 20,000 . This year , the goal is $ 7,000 .”
Mark your calendars and bring the family out to Wyant Group Raceway and support Race for the Cure Saturday June 25 , 2016 . The event starts at 6:00pm .
