Bloom Donates $51,000 to NICU
Marcy Cross,

The Neonatal Intensive
Care Unit (NICU) at
Royal University Hospital
in Saskatoon is a place
that is far too familiar for
many families, including
Amy Novakovski and Tina
Searcy. The two women
have one major thing in
common, and that is the fact
that the NICU saved their
child. As a way of giving
back, each year Novakovski
and Searcy plan a massive
fundraiser to help raise
money for the NICU.
The ‘Bloom – An Evening
of Love’ fundraiser has
been taking place since
2012, and this year marks
the largest donation the
fundraiser has brought in,
with an incredible total
of $51,000. Over the past
five years, a total amount
of over $140,000 has been
donated to help support
the patients of the NICU,
along with their families.
The donation was made

Charley. Both
children
were patients in the NICU
and are here today thanks
to the care they received.
“Our babies are here today
because of them, so we
want to give back and
keep giving back every
year as much as we can,”
Novakovski stated.
In December 2015 the
Saskatoon NICU expanded
from 32 beds up to 38 beds,
however the approximately
180 staff can often see up to
41 babies requiring care at
one time. Throughout each
year, the NICU has over
600 babies that require
their care, some staying
only for days, while others
are required to stay for
months.
The next Bloom fundraiser
will be held on May 13,
2017. For more information

you can contribute, visit
