THIS WEEK IN SPORTS

The conference finals in the NHL playoffs have come to an end and it ’ s down to just two teams . Pittsburgh defeated Tampa Bay despite the Lighting getting back their captain Steven Stamkos for game seven . The San Jose Sharks surpassed the St . Louis Blues in just six games to move onto the Stanley Cup finals . This will definitely be a close series as the home ice advantage really means nothing . Both teams have won tough games in opposing arenas . On defence the Sharks have a very slight advantage with the one two punch of Brent Burns and Marc-Edward Vlasic over the lonely goal scoring blue liner for the Pens Kris Letang . On offence it is an equal and unpredictable tie between the teams . The Pens have talent and skill in Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin , while the Sharks have deep experience with Joe Thorton , Patrick Marleau , and the playoff goal scoring leader ( 13 , four of which being game winners ) Joe Pavelski . Pittsburgh has ridden their rookie goalie Matt Murray through the playoffs after the injury to Marc-Andre Fleury . The Sharks also have a young goalie in Martin Jones who has had an exceptional season . Who is your pick ? I ’ m saying San Jose in six games .
The run is over for the Toronto Raptors as they just didn ’ t have enough to defeat the powerhouse Cavaliers . They defied all odds to even win two games against them but that was only half as many as they needed . The Cavs closed out the series with their first win in Toronto this season with a 113-87 victory . In the west final the Warriors have been exactly that , coming back to force game seven after being down 3-1 in the series . On Monday May 30th Golden state will host the Thunder to see who will meet Cleveland in the finals .
In the MLB , Jays fans can breathe a little easier now that catcher Russel Martin has found his stride . Martin hit his first home run of the year on Wednesday May 25 then hit his second just two innings later that same night . The Blue Jays had a four game win streak snapped on Sunday when they played former Jay David Price . They fought hard but lost to the Red Sox in 11 innings .

Saskatchewan Rush Are Hungry to Repeat

The Rush are the reigning National Lacrosse League champions , bringing home the National Cup a year ago and are hungry to repeat this again . They defeated the Toronto Rock in 2015 , 11-10 which was the first National Title for the franchise . Since relocating to Saskatoon from Edmonton , the team played to huge crowds that increased every game . It ’ s Rush fever in Saskatoon as merchandise sales are way up and tickets are now sold out every game . Lacrosse has caught on in Saskatchewan and it helps that the team is fielding a winning product . The Rush secured the Western Championship on home turf May 22 when they defeated Calgary 12-9 to earn a spot in the National final against the Buffalo Bandits . The Rush are looking to hold on
to the Cup for a second year as they travelled to Buffalo on May 28 for game one of the series .
The teams were very evenly matched and The Rush had their eye on Bandits ’ Dhane Smith , who is the league ’ s top scorer . Smith found the Rush net 3 times and also had three assists but this did not affect the Rush attack . They were prepared for this game and took the 11-9 win from the Bandits . Matthews , Greer and McIntosh all had a pair of goals for The Rush as they came home with the one game lead . They host the Bandits at Sasktel Center on June 4 for game 2 . It would be a nice welcome home present if they could secure the championship and national title at home next weekend . If need be , game three will go back to Buffalo on June 11 .
