Martensville Celebrates Canada Day in Style

Marcy Cross , Martensville Messenger The sky was cloudy and the weather was trying to put a damper on the Martensville Canada Day celebrations this July 1st but nothing could keep a group of dedicated patriots from the North Ridge Community Centre . Those proud souls were treated to the best Martensville had to offer . The day was filled with exciting activities and excited people .
The Martensville Information & Visitor Centre ( MIVC ) presented speakers , entertainment , games , fireworks , and a movie . Volunteers had worked for months to prepare the festivities for the day . All events took place at and around the North Ridge Community Centre except the fireworks that popped and dazzled in Kinsmen Park . There was a morning coffee break from 10:00am to 11:00am that was a little more adult focused . At 10:00am the Art Show and Historical Display opened .
The Art Show presented contributions from local high school students as well as grade eight students and other local artists . A BBQ concession was open throughout the day . Family activities including bouncy castles , face painting , donut on a string , puzzles , crafts , a scavenger hunt , and other carnival games cheered and entertained all afternoon .
At 2:30pm guest speakers from the U of S Huskies , David Singer , Brayden Heck , and Lance Bashutsky spoke about sports safety and head injuries . They also gathered interested attendees for an informal football game in the green space near the pool .
Theodore ’ s Bakery donated a cake that was beautifully decorated with a Canadian flag for the first 200 people on hand . The ice cream was donated by Best Ways Convenience Store . This was all timed perfectly so that everyone was sugared up for the water fight that followed . At 3:00pm on the Checkered Flag stage there was a demonstration from Acro Yoga . A dance party rocked the neighbourhood in the early evening . Those
