Page 6 - JULY 28, 2016 - martensviLLe messenger By: Tyler Janzen Oh baby do I love the CFL, it’s so unpredictable and there are always great games and most of the time something spectacular happens. Week number five in the CFL started on Thursday where the lowly Winnipeg Blue Bombers took on my boys the Calgary Stampeders and the bombers kind of forgot to show up. Calgary was up 20-3 at the half and it wasn’t until the fourth quarter that Winnipeg scored their first TD but by that time it was too late. Calgary improves to 2-1-1 with a 33-18 win over the 1-4 Bombers. Next up was undefeated RedBlacks and the winless Riders, this looked like it wasn’t even going to be close. It was only the fourth play of the game when Ottawa fans were stunned, their Quarterback Trevor Harris, who is the league leader in passing yards went down with a leg injury. The RedBlacks already lost Henry Burris in their first game so now it came down to their third-string QB Brock Jensen. As for the Riders, Mitchell Gale was making his first start in the CFL and finished with 354 yards and one touchdown as Saskatchewan shocked the league with a 3029 last-second victory against the powerhouse RedBlacks. Now as I was saying there is always something spectacular in the CFL and this week there was two amazing feats. First it was the Riders getting their first win while handing Ottawa their first loss, and second was the game between the Eskimos and the Ti-Cats on Saturday. Early in the third quarter Edmonton was martensville Players going to national Ball Hockey Championship sports Jocelyn Ottenbreit, Martensville Messenger pumping Hamilton 316. But something was ignited in the Ti-Cats after that TD. They went on to shut out the Eskies and storm back with four unanswered touchdowns and a field goal to seal the deal and complete the comeback and take the win by a score of 37-31. In the final game of the week Montreal took the trip to Toronto and left without a win. Ricky Ray and the Argos had a big second quarter putting up three touchdowns enroute to a 30-17 victory, their first win in their new home, BMO Field. As for Week 6 you can watch Winnipeg against Edmonton on Thursday, BC and Calgary are the first in the double-header on Saturday followed by the Riders and Montreal, then on Sunday Toronto rolls into Ottawa to take on the RedBlacks. I’m going to make some picks this week and see how it goes! My winners will be Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatchewan, and Toronto. Some news coming out of the MLB on Tuesday, it is reported the New York Yankees have traded relief pitcher Aroldis Chapman to the Chicago Cubs for topprospect Gleyber Torres, along with three other young prospects. Now I know you’re thinking you have heard the name Chapman before and if you read this article you are correct. Just last week the now Cubs pitcher threw a record 105.1 mph pitch along with another six fastballs above the 103 mph mark. Looks like Chicago has got themselves a closer. The U15 and U17 ball hockey teams from Team Saskatchewan will be travelling to Edmonton, AB for the National Ball Hockey Championship held this weekend – July 28-31. The U15 team is coached by Brennan Hall of Warman with three local Martensville players – Lane Adair, Jayden Landman and Dakota Whiteside adding to this strong team. This is Steve Adair’s fourth year as head coach with Team Saskatchewan – first with the U15 and now the U17 team for the second year. He is
