Martensville Chamber of Commerce Celebrates One Year

Lacie Munholland , Martensville Messenger
The Martensville Chamber of Commerce ( MCOC ) celebrated its first birthday this summer . Throughout the first year , the MCOC has focused on continuing to grow , benefit their members and plans for the future .
Numerous events were held throughout the year to encourage business owners and representatives from Martensville to come out and learn more about other local businesses and their community . Several guest speakers were invited to attend the events to provide information on varying subjects to those that attended . Some speakers included Martensville ’ s Mayor Kent Muench and Dillon Shewchuk , Economic Development Manager for Martensville , MLA Nancy Heppner , representatives from Wiegers Financial , Jolene Watson of Clarity Coaching & Development , and more .
Other events held by the local Chamber of Commerce included the Martensville Community Expo , which was held through a partnership between the MCOC , City of Martensville , Martensville Information & Visitor Centre and WOW Factor Event Design . The Expo was held at the MAP April 1st and 2nd . The event proved to be extremely successful with a total of 1,037 people , not including children 12 and under attending .
Another big event for the MCOC was the inaugural WMBEX Awards , which were held Friday , May 27 between a partnership with the Warman Chamber of Commerce ( WCOC ) and the MCOC . Over 250 community and business people within the area came together to celebrate business . Awards were presented to local businesses in the categories of Marketing , Customer Service , Community Involvement , New Business and Business of the Year . The event garnished attention from many media outlets , local businesses and other Chambers of Commerce . The 2017 Awards will be held at the North Ridge Community Centre in Martensville and the MCOC and the WCOC are already looking forward to planning the event .
Members of the MCOC
Executive are always working on new ways to benefit not just the business community in Martensville , but the community as a whole . The current MCOC Board consists of ; Trent Ens of Smokehaus Meats & Deli as President , Tracey Fesiuk of Martensville Plumbing & Heating as Vice President , Tracy Cox of Infinity Salon & Spa as Treasurer and Sherisse Sametts of the Canalta Hotel in Martensville as Secretary . The MCOC Directors are ; Stephen Nicholson of the W Law Group , Anthony Nienhuis of Martensville Building , Jaime Hollowaty of The Wireless Age and Shanine Sealey of the Martensville Messenger .
The Executive has been pleased with how the first year with the MCOC has gone . “ The welcoming of several new businesses to Martensville has been a true testament to the growth and vibrancy of the city of Martensville . As a Chamber we have also seen growth and expansion in both member numbers and positive exposure in the community . The Community Expo and the partnership with the Warman Chamber of Commerce in the Business Excellence Awards have brought the Chamber into a new light with the members of the business community in Martensville ,” Sametts stated .
Being a member with the MCOC has numerous benefits , with one of the most crucial ones being representation . The MCOC was established to be a united voice for businesses within Martensville and work together with the City of Martensville , as well as business owners and residents . The Chamber can lobby with a voice much stronger than that of any one individual or business . “ If you have a business and are concerned about something , or feel as though your voice is not being heard , that is what the Chamber is for . There are several small committees currently in place within the Chamber board , and as topics come up , more committees are created to help focus on the issue and work together to help resolve the issue ,” Shanine Sealey explained . Another major benefit is the networking aspect of being a member with the MCOC . “ For me the benefits that I have most appreciated are the networking pieces . For a new business there is no better way to get out into the business community than to meet the Chamber and develop partnerships ,” Sametts added .
The Chamber of Commerce also offers the option for members to sign up for Group Health Insurance Plans through Wiegers Financial . Having a good group insurance plan in place can be crucial to obtaining and keeping staff , and through the Chamber of Commerce benefit plan , members are able to find a plan that fits their business ’ s needs .
Trent Ens , MCOC President , provided details on the future plans for the Martensville Chamber of Commerce . “ We will continue to build and improve on the strong
Chamber we ’ ve got started . Some specifics include ; having our members learn about and take advantage of programs and tools available to them through the greater Chamber system , developing specific projects to benefit our members businesses such as North Centennial Dr . landscaping development and 9th Ave . N development , put on another successful Community Expo with even more exhibitors and activities , and continue strengthening our members through networking .”
Jaime Holowaty , the newest addition to the MCOC Board , has been very happy with her decision to become involved with the MCOC . “ I decided to join because I want to be part of this community and be part of making it better . The Wireless Age is very community focused and we really enjoy being part of this community and partaking in different community events such as the Business Expo . By joining the Martensville Chamber you will meet an incredible group of local business people that are there to support you and your business !”
The MCOC hosts events on a regular basis and works hard to plan a variety of events at varying times throughout the day so they
can offer something for everyone . Some months the event may be a ‘ Business Breakfast ’ while others may be an evening event . “ All events we host , we make available to non-members as well , so if someone is looking for more information on the Chamber and wants to come to an event to find out more , it is open to both members and non-members ,” Sealey added .
