It was also the first time Rider Coach Chris Jones returned to Commonwealth stadium after leaving Edmonton last season. It was an exciting game that came down to overtime but the Riders couldn’t cap things off and the Eskimos took the 39-36 win. Things looked good for the Green and White early in the game when Durant found Robb Bagg for a 26 yard touchdown for the first series of the game. Tyler Crapigna added 2 field goals to give the Riders a 13-0 lead in the second. Shortly after, Eskimos’ Mike Reilly found Bowman for a 56 yard major to cut the lead 13-7. Ricky Collins Jr. made a spectacular catch on a deflected ball to stretch the Rider lead 197. Former Rider Chris Getzlaff shortened the gap to 19-14 at the half on a 4 yard catch in the end zone. It was all Eskimos in the third when they took over the lead from the Riders 27-19 after 2 majors from Adarius Bowman and John White. Bowman added his 3rd major on a 105 yard series play to make it 33-19 which looked dismal for the Riders. In the fourth quarter they got to work, when the defense forced a fumble on a punt return and 3 plays later Durant found John Chiles for the touchdown. Jones made a bold call with the short kick-off and it paid off when the Riders deflected it out of bounds giving control back to the green and white. Crapigna converted it into another field goal. The defense forced the Eskimos to a two and out and Durant had another chance. He connected for his fourth touchdown of the game to Shamawd Chambers to give the Riders the 36-33 lead with only 13 seconds left in the game. It apparently was enough time for Reilly to make 2 completions which set up a 51 yard Sean Whyte field goal and forced the game into overtime. The Rider defense was strong and held the Eskimos to a field goal. Durant was charging his team down for a major but was held out of the end zone on a third and short. The Eskimos squeaked away with the 39-33 victory. It was a heartbreaking loss for the Riders but the team had many positive things to take away from the game. They will be back in action on Friday when they host the B.C. Lions at Mosaic.
