The committee has put in many hours promoting our cause to get a second ice surface in Martensville. The MCRP received a donation from the Ladies Night Out committee that put us over the $100,000 plateau. This group of ladies was the first group to donate to the MCRP in 2014 and also donated in 2015. Through donations from service groups and teams in Martensville, the MCRP has seen incredible growth. Here is what we have been able to accomplish in 2015-16 In our first ever BN Metals Martensville 3 on 3 Fall Hockey Tournament, we raised over $10,000. Three hundred players from Martensville and surrounding areas signed up and played “the best organized shinny around” for the first 3 weeks in September. This year the tournament is almost sold out with only a few spots available in the Bantam and 15+ divisions. We also have spare list spots open in all divisions. Go to www.martensville3on3. goalline.ca to register. The 2nd Annual Casino Night was a huge success; we raised over $9,000 and had 250 people attend. We are planning an even bigger event for our 3rd Annual Casino night. We are adding a DJ and dance, plus more game tables. It will be held November 5th and tickets will be available in August. This January, with the help of Todd Devonshire, we were able to get $25,000 in rink upgrades through Kraft Hockeyville. Through organized events by our schools and community members, our city made the top 10 communities out of many other cities across Canada. Our 2nd Annual NHL Playoff Draft raised over $17,000. The draft grew by 4 teams this year and had great door prizes. The MCRP also gave away $18,000 in prizes to the winning teams in the draft and the Calcutta auction. The draft is scheduled for April 9th, 2017. A huge thank you goes out to Ffun Motorsports who was the title sponsor of the draft and the Casino Night. As the mentioned before MCRP receives numerous selfless donations from many local businesses, service groups and sports teams throughout the year. This year we received our largest one time donation ever of $10,000, from the Buster Days committee. The MCRP gave out two scholarships to graduating Martensville High School students this past June. The MCRP was looking for students who contributed to the community through sport and are going to attend any post secondary educational institution in the fall. This years winners were Madison Ryan and Tyler Janzen. The MCRP would like to thank all those who took the time to volunteer at our events, especially the Kinsmen Club who has been a staple since the first Casino Night. A huge thank you goes out to those businesses who helped through sponsorship. These are BN Metals, Western Wall Systems, Trach Power Skating, Al Andersons, Lakeview Insurance, SIGA, Dakota Dunes, Imperio Plumbing, Ayotte Plumbing, Ideal Insulation, National Refrigeration, Speedy Collision, Ffun Motorsports, Smokehaus Meats and Deli, Budweiser and the Martensville Messenger. It was a good year for the MCRP but next year looks to be bigger yet. You can follow the MCRP on Facebook or check out the website at www.martensvillecrp. weebly.com. There were some wild games in the CFL this week with two of the four match-ups headlining into overtime. On Thursday night Winnipeg withstood a strong Hamilton comeback in the third quarter and both teams were shut out in the fourth. Bombers QB Drew Willy was 32/42 for 279 yards and one touchdown while his counterpart Jeremiah Masoli threw for 367 yards on 29 completions and two touchdowns but also threw up two Interceptions. The Bombers got their first win of the year 28-24 over the Ticats. This might have been helped by the six turnovers Hamilton gave up. The Toronto Argonauts handed the BC Lions their first loss of the season on Thursday when they shut out the Lions in the second and third quarter and held them to just 14 points. Argo’s QB Ricky Ray threw for 283 yards and one touchdown on 23 completions over 32 attempts. British Columbia split their quarterback duties between Travis Lulay and Jonathon Jennings who combined for 288 yards, one touchdown and a pair of interceptions. Friday Night Football was crazy as both games needed extra time to be settled. In the first game of the doubleheader the Ottawa Redblacks and Calgary Stampeders could not break the deadlock and finished in a 26-26 draw giving one point to each team. Calgary’s Bo Levi Mitchell tossed up 368 yards of passing and a pair of TD’s along with one interception. BC’s Trevor Harris threw for 396 yards, three touchdowns and a pick. In overtime it was only field goals as no team managed to score a touchdown. In the night game the Saskatchewan Roughriders failed to capitalize on an early 13-0 lead and allowed th
