Over 15,000 fans packed into the Sasktel center for the Rush home opener Saturday night when the Rochester Knighthawks came to town . It was a big night for the Rush as they raised their second Championship banner with back to back National Lacrosse League championships in 2015 and 2016 . Some were doubting the move to Saskatchewan but the fans and Saskatoon have embraced their new team and Rush fever has hit Saskatoon . There is something for everyone at the games and there are fans of every age .
The Rush did not disappoint as they came away with the 16-8 win to give them their first win after a slow 0-2 start to the season . The team was pumped up scoring 3 goals in the first 3 minutes of the game . They went into the half with an 8-2 lead . The Knighthawks ran into some penalty trouble and the Rush capitalized going 6 for 8 with the man advantage . Rochester , who had three previous championships under their belts previous to the last two years , put a little pressure on in the third quarter closing the gap but the team broke out again
in the fourth . The Rush were led by Mark Mathews and Ben McIntosh who both had hat tricks for the night . Last year ’ s MVP Aaron Bold had a slow start to the season in net after a lacklustre performance in the last 2 games but showed his form again on Saturday turning away 38 shots .
The Rush are back at it again on Friday when they host the Vancouver Stealth at SaskTel Centre . Game time is 7:30 . pm
