Martensville Curling Club is Host to SFFCA Curling Playoffs

Participants of the Saskatchewan Fire Fighters Curling Association ( SFFCA ) will be in Martensville January 27th & 28th to participate in the 2017 SFFCA Provincial Playdowns . This is the 58th annual event for the SFFCA , who welcomed a new team this year from Martensville . This team consists of skip Ryan Cross , third Jason Matheson , second Kyle McAleese , lead Mike Anweiler , fifth , Dustin Hollman , and coach and mentor Fire Chief Kurt Dyck .

A total of ten fire departments will be represented this weekend , all competing for the title . Participating fire departments include Martensville FD , Saskatoon Airport FD , Borden FD , Prince Albert FD , Swift Current FD , Regina FD , Moosimin FD , Assiniboia FD and Kronau FD .

“ On behalf of the SSFCA I would like to welcome all competitors , spectators and friends to the 58th annual Provincial Championship in Martensville . I would like to take this time to thank Martensville Curling Club for letting us invade their club for this weekend ,” stated Firefighter Garnet Zummack from Regina .

Any firefighter in Canada can enter a team to curl in this event . The winner goes to Nationals in Mississauga , Ontario at the end of March . Come on down to Martensville Curling Club this weekend to support some of your local firefighters and cheer them on .

The NHL All- Star teams are set for this weekend as the league heads to Los Angeles for the All-Star festivities . Four Canadian players were named as captains for the four divisions ; Conner McDavid for the Pacific , Sidney Crosby for the Metropolitan , P . K . Subban for the Central , and goaltender Carey Price for the Atlantic Division . The teams will take part in two 20-minute mini games with the western divisions playing each other and the eastern teams playing each other with the winners playing in the final . compete in the All- Star skills competition on Saturday . This competition is between east and west with the winner deciding if they play first or second in the All-Star Game . The competition has six different events that teams can get points from including the skills relay , accuracy shooting , fastest skater , hardest shot , and the shootout . The NHL took out the Breakaway challenge that would display the creativity of the players and fans voted on the winner . Instead they will be having a Celebrity Shootout before the official competition starts . The celebrity shootout will have NHL legends pitted against celebrities from the big screen , television , and music . The Celebrity Shootout starts at 4:15 Saturday afternoon with the All-Star Skills Competition following right after . The NHL All-Star Game will start at 3:00 Sunday afternoon .

The NFL is also taking some time off for their All-Stars . The Pro Bowl takes place in Orlando on Sunday . More importantly the Super Bowl is next weekend and what a showdown that will be .
