Wheatland Library is in the midst of sponsoring an event as part of the Aboriginal Storytelling Month of February . The Saskatchewan Aboriginal Storytelling Month is organized by the Saskatchewan Library Services ( LSSAP ) committee . As part of this initiative , Wheatland Library is excited to present the tales of Rabbit and Bear Paws to Valley Manor Elementary School on February 2nd . Rabbit and Bear Paws are two mischievous Anishinabek brothers who go on many adventures together . Countless enjoyable life lessons will be learned through their numerous pranks and blunders while also appreciating the unity of the Native communities and how they peacefully relate to one another . Chad Solomon , the puppeteer , will use humour and traditional native teachings in his creation of the stories presented . Wheatland branches in the past have all said they can ' t wait to have Rabbit and Bear Paws out again . A great time is surely to be had by all !
First Nations , Inuit , and Metis cultures have long passed on knowledge from generation to generation through oral traditions . Storytelling is a traditional method used to teach cultural beliefs , values , customs , rituals , history , practices , relationships , and
ways of life . Using traditional native teachings and humour , the stories are based on The Seven Fires Prophecies and The Seven Grandfathers . Rabbit and Bear Paws will be making a special appearance on Thursday , February 2nd in the gymnasium of Valley Manor Elementary School at 10:30 am . Grades PreK-4 will be in attending , and doors will be open for members of the public as well . “ We are very fortunate to bring this performance to Valley Manor School as aboriginal storytelling is an initiative of the library ,” says Head of the Library , Marla Skomar .
