Mrs . Mackenzie ’ s Grade 10 / 12 Leadership Class of Martensville High School grew together in significant ways over the semester ’ s course . The class began with aspiring leaders who did not know where to start , but they certainly found their way under the teachings of Mrs . Mackenzie . The students began their Leadership Class with a group project which anticipated creativity and working together . The first assignment for the students was back in September , when they were to make project proposals and thusly follow through with their pitches . It was apparent that the students lacked inventiveness with the first assignment as many of the student project proposals consisted of the typical high school bake-sales .
The final assignment , however , really got cogs spinning and heads turning . In fact , even CTV News got involved on the action ! The same project was assigned to the students at the end of the semester and the outcome was more than impressive . Students were all to pitch project ideas to the class and the pitches presented with the most anonymous votes were to be established by the group leaders ( idea pitch winners ) and their new groups . Students of the class flipped the bake sales into a Pizza Bingo , a Coffee Shop , Happy Bucket , and What Would You do for a Klondike Bar . Those who became group leaders through their project proposals were Erris O ’ Reilly ( Pizza Bingo ), Hannah Chivilo ( Coffee Shop ), Alix Kubiak ( What Would You do for a Klondike Bar ?), and Brett Larocque ( Happy Bucket ).
The leadership students went above and beyond with their projects , and even made a special addition to their assignment . Mrs . Dunville is a teacher at Martensville High School who is currently undergoing a difficult time in her life as one of her children was diagnosed with cancer . Mrs . Mackenzie ’ s students demonstrated what it takes to be a Leader with bountiful amounts of kindness and companionship . They decided to incorporate funds into their projects and charged the members of the student body who supported their projects . The funds collected were then generously donated to the Dunville family for future oncology treatments . “ Mrs . Mackenzie was so proud of us all becoming leaders . She assigned the same project at the end of the semester to see how far we have all branched out since September ,” explained Erris O ’ Reilly , Leadership Student of MHS .
Dunville
expressed her gratitude towards the efforts put on by MHS ’ s newest leaders , Hannah Chivilo ’ s team of Sam Laughren , Jen Johnstone , Kal Spetz , and Jessie Kolbach who raised $ 324 for their Coffee House . Chivilo then raised an additional $ 721 from businesses and family friends , for a total of $ 1045 to go towards Dunville and her family .
