Rush Lose to Swarm in Season Opener

The Saskatchewan Rush played their opening game Saturday , January 7th against the Georgia Swarm in Duluth , Georgia , where they were defeated 18-10 .
Having a successful pre-season game , the Rush , who were the 2016 Champions , were looking to start the 2017 off with another win ; however , were unable to come out on top against Georgia ’ s offence . The Rush gave up numerous goals on the Swarm power play and by the end of the game , Georgia had scored 5 out of 10 power plays . The Swarm ’ s Thompson brothers ( Myles , Lyle and Jerome ) managed to score a total of seven goals between the three of them and Shayne Jackson and Randy Staats worked together to add another seven to the board . Another Thompson brother ( Jeremy ) graced the field for the Rush , setting a world record for the most brothers playing in the same professional sporting event at one time .
Rush goals were scored by Mark Matthews ( 3 ), Adam Jones ( 2 ), Robert Church ( 2 ), Curtis Knight , Ryan Keenan and Adrian Sorichetti . Goalie Tyler Carlson made a total of 33 saves on 21 shots .
Although their first game of the season didn ’ t start off the way they had planned , the team is looking forward to their next game against the Toronto Rock , which will take place Saturday , January 14th at 6pm on Rock territory . The Rush home-opener will take place Saturday , January 21st when Saskatchewan will host the Rochester Knighthawks and also raise the 2016 Champion Cup banner .
