Martensville ’ s Free Pantry is quickly spreading the word of its existence across Martensville , and residents are certainly taking advantage of the contents of the pantry . Marcy Cross , operator of the Free Pantry , mentioned that the pantry has already been refilled on five different occasions . The pantry is still on trial , so Cross makes sure everything is clean and running smoothly while making dedicated checkups every two days . Support from the community has been truly substantial ; the local Kinsmen and Lions group have been exceptionally supportive of the Free Pantry . “ Outstanding donations still stand and I haven ’ t had to take advantage of those donators yet , my dining room is full of non-perishables and toiletries right now ,” mentioned Cross .

The Free Pantry came to be at the end of November , and hit off when Cross gained permission from the City of Martensville to install the Pantry in the Civic Centre . Accessibility to the pantry is anonymous and open to all who need it . Cross was inspired by the local Fire Department whom prepares annual Christmas hampers over the holiday season for families in Martensville , so Cross knew the need for a little extra help in the city was there . It ’ s a community designed for working people . All sorts of jobs and mines are shutting down so we are hoping this will help people at least a little ,” informed Cross .

Expansion of the Free Pantry is hoped for in the future . Cross hopes to one day have a fridge installed in order to offer fresh and frozen foods to families in Martensville .
