Grade 6G Literature Gallery

Instead of a boring book report , Mr . Gartner ' s grade 6 class at Valley Manor Elementary School class held a Literature Gallery as a way to share their books with the rest of the school . The students made displays , brought props or dressed in costumes as a way to bring their book to life and inspire other students to read . After visiting the Gallery , many students went to the library looking for the featured books . What a great way to

Playground Committee Formed for École Holy Mary School

A playground committee has now been founded for the brand new schools in Lake Vista . The committee , officially named École Holy Mary School Playground Association ( EHMSPA ), is made up of parent and grandparent volunteers of students who plan to attend École Holy Mary Catholic School this upcoming fall . Both of the principals of the new schools , Luisa Giocoli and Chris Mason , are actively involved in the meetings and act as a liaison between the school board and the committee . Founded in early January , the committee has since been striving towards its ultimate goal in obtaining a safe , accessible , and fun playground for children to enjoy all year round . It is likely that the public school will form a similar group once the bussing routes have been populated . “ We will be working cooperatively as the playgrounds benefit the whole community and not just the students who are attending ,” says Johanna Clancy , Vice Chair of EHMSPA .
Since being so recently established , the committee ’ s primary endeavour is firstly gaining the support of the community . Community support is
Ciara O ’ Reilly , Martensville Messenger vital in order for funds to be raised for the playgrounds . Currently meetings are being held between the newly elected committee members , and for the first meeting back in December , Mayor Kent Muench was also present . Muench expressed his gratitude toward the volunteers on behalf of the City of Martensville . Construction plans for the playgrounds has been provided by both of the school boards ( Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools and Prairie Spirit School Division ), however final decisions have yet to be made as the committee remains flexible in regards to what the budget will allow . Diagrams are currently being held within consideration of the committee . The committee does plan for École Holy Mary School to have one large play centre , while Lake Vista is planning on having two play centres . “ Right now we are tackling corporate sponsors and local businesses for donations ,” says Clancy . “ We have not yet planned any fundraising events , but would welcome personal donations of any amount .” Representatives from the playground association are hoping to meet with City Council in the near future to solidify a financial commitment .
