Members of the Martensville & District Kinsmen Club made a donation of $ 6000 to the recently relocated 574 Aurora RCAC Squadron January 26 , 2016 . Scott McIntyre , Steve Smith , and Arnie Deschner were happy to be able to represent the Kinsmen for the presentation . “ It was another incredible evening for our club . We have partnered with the new Air Cadet Squadron in Martensville as their major sponsor ,” the Kinsmen Club explained via Facebook .
This particular Squadron was originally based out of Choiceland ; however , in the fall of 2016 , it was relocated to Martensville . The group already has over 20 members . “ Tonight is the start of a great relationship with this organization and they ’ ve come on board to be the official major sponsor . Cadets will be doing a lot with them . They have shared values ,” Captain Trevor Davies , with the 574 Aurora RCAC Squadron , stated during the event .
“ It is great having the Kinsmen on board , as having a major sponsor for the squadron is very important . If we have a strong sponsor , we are going to have a great working relationship with them ; volunteering to help out with some of their activities and them helping us out with the funding we need to run ,” Colin Kunkel , the Public Relations and Special Events Coordinator explained .
Kunkel continued to state that the squadron is always on the lookout for new cadets that are interested in joining . “ We have had a very positive reaction to the Air Cadet squad here , and we are looking forward to having more youth join us .” Those interested are invited to attend the Air Cadet meetings , held every Thursday evening at the North Ridge Centre until early June , when they will take a break for summer . “ Since we have started , we have been focusing on our training schedule . We have to have so many training days in a year . We also have an effective speaking competition coming up in February ,” Kunkel added . The Cadets will also have a sports night taking place in the future , as one of the aims of the Air Cadets is encouraging physical fitness .
Participation in Air Cadets can help teach skills such as teamwork , leadership , citizenship and community involvement . For more information , contact 574rcacs @ gmail . com , or visit them on Facebook under ‘ 574 Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron ’.
