Warman Number One for Growth Rates in the Country Ciara O ’ Reilly , Martensville Messenger

Every five years the Census Program provided by Statistics Canada issues a number of statistical portraits regarding what the country looks like . On February 8th of 2017 , the population and dwelling counts were released and our local communities were surprised to see the name of the city claiming the number one spot for population and community growth . The city of Warman , just 14km north of Saskatoon and neighbouring with Martensville , was named the fastest growing municipality in Canada . The city hit a whopping 55.1 % increase in population and growth over five years . When the 2011 census was taken , Warman reportedly had a population of 7,104 . The city now holds approximately 11,020 residents . This is a massive leap and it doesn ’ t end here . The city is now expanding its water supply and two new schools are currently under construction . Residents who have lived in Warman for most of their lives can name the differences in the city as the growth was apparent . Where children once used to play became houses , fields behind schools that at a time stretched for miles are also covered in infrastructure . Not only has Warman seen such rapid growth , but Martensville ’ s growth rates have also increased so .
The city of Martensville also saw a hefty population increase in comparison to five years ago . The population went up from 7,716 residents in 2011 to 9,645 in 2016 , which makes Martensville the 12th fastest growing municipality in the country . As a whole , Saskatchewan was number two in the country as far as population counts go , behind the neighbouring province of Alberta . Sask ’ s population is now at 1,098,352 , 6.3 % higher compared to the 2011 population census of 1,033,381 . Alberta ’ s growth rates are 11.6 percent higher than that of 2011 , making it number one for growth rates in the country .
