The United Youth Christmas Campaign, initiated by Martensville resident
Maizie Bowkowy, continues to pick up pace as more and more donations roll in,
along with more exposure to their incredible cause. The purpose of the group is to
encourage youth to get involved and to give back to those that are less fortunate
during the holiday season. The campaign was constructed by the youth, for the
youth, and since beginning, has exceeded the expectations of many involved.
The group has met several times thus far, each time, hitting the streets of
Martensville to collect non-perishable food items, toiletries and other items that
will be donated to underprivileged families. Numerous donations have been made
by local businesses, organizations and individuals, and the group has received
acknowledgement from the media, the Saskatchewan Legislature, as well as
celebrity endorsement. W. Brett Wilson, of Dragons Den supported the cause, ABOVE: The Martensville Midget AA’s donated admission from Saturday

and although unable to be here in person, sent a letter encouraging the youth
of Martensville to get involved. “After Maizie outlined her campaign and the
importance these youth can make, I would like to share my unconditional support
of her in this endeavor. I also encourage the youth of Martensville to dedicate their
time during December to this campaign so they too can know how good it feels
to give back to underprivileged families,” Wilson stated in his letter. Recently,
the cause received donations from; Ready Set Baby Planners & Boutique in the
form of over $800 in baby & kids supplies, RBC, the Saskatoon Blade’s, Mar’s
Mini-Golf, Michaels Independent Grocer, the Martensville Midget AA hockey
team, who donated admission from their game totaling $350, City Councillor Bob
Blackwell who donated on behalf of Martensville City Council, the Martensville
& District Kinsmen Club who donated $2000 and many more. The most recent
donation came from Hillberg & Berk in the form of 50 sets of sparkle ball
earrings, a retail value of $3500. “You are an incredible young woman, doing
incredible things! We stand behind you,” Hillberg & Berk representative Ashley

and do more, as well as give hope to the underprivileged youths of Saskatchewan.
