New Wastewater Lagoon
in Langham Will Help
Protect the Environment
and Support Economic
Development
By ensuring that water and wastewater systems are modern, efficient and meet
the capacity needs of our communities, the Governments of Canada and Saskatchewan
are safeguarding the wellbeing of residents, protecting the province’s waterways, and
preserving its ecosystems.
At the same time, these investments will support economic opportunities
for the middle class and those trying to join it. The Government of Canada and the
province of Saskatchewan today announce support for a wastewater project in the Town
of Langham.
“The Government of Canada is committed to investing in modern infrastructure
that meets the needs of our communities, supports the middle class, and ensures that
Canada will remain the best place in the world to live, work and raise a family,” said
Ralph Goodale, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, on behalf of
Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities. “This important investment
in Langham will protect the local environment, provide reliable wastewater services for
the community’s residents, and support population growth and business development in
the area.”
“By partnering with the federal government and the Town of Langham, our
government is making life better for our citizens by improving the reliability and
performance of Langham's wastewater treatment system,” Biggar-Sask Valley MLA
Randy Weekes said on behalf of Government Relations Minister Donna Harpauer.
“Our investment of more than $1.9 million highlights our government's commitment to
address provincial infrastructure needs and to keep Saskatchewan strong.”
“The Town of Langham is very thankful for the funding announcement that
is being made today for our wastewater treatment lagoon,” Langham Mayor John
Hildebrand said. “This investment in infrastructure is integral to the future growth of
the town. Funding from the federal and provincial governments is vital for having this
project proceed.”
The town, with its close proximity to Saskatoon, is experiencing increasing
demand for growth – both residential and commercial. This new wastewater lagoon
will increase the reliability and capacity of the town’s wastewater system and allow it
to accommodate an increased population and new economic development. This project
will also address local environmental concerns by protecting the surrounding soil and
groundwater at the new lagoon site from wastewater contaminants.
The Governments of Canada and Saskatchewan are each contributing up to
$1,948,100 for this project through the 2014 New Building Canada Fund ProvincialTerritorial Infrastructure Component – National Regional Projects. The Town of
Langham will be responsible for all remaining costs. The total project cost is $6,079,090.

Chamber of Commerce Celebrates
Christmas Small Business Style
Ciara O’Reilly, Martensville Messenger
The Martensville Chamber of
Commerce hosted their first annual Small
Business Christmas Party December 10th
at the North Ridge Centennial Community
Centre. The purpose of the event was
to provide local businesses with an
opportunity to celebrate the holidays with
their staff, and other local businesses,
without having to leave the community.
The evening consisted of a
delicious supper, provided by Smokehaus
Meats & Deli, followed with games to
get everyone involved and laughing.
The Scavenger Hunt became a fierce
competition between contestants from
Infinity Salon & Spa and Martensville
Building, and was forced into a tie-breaker.
After the epic Scavenger Hunt bat tle,
attendees were invited to take advantage
of a photo booth, provided by Photobooth
Central. It was here that they were able to
get creative and utilize the wide variety of
props that were available. At approximately
9pm, the dance portion of the evening
began with music and lighting by Randy
Elliot of Precision Sounds.
The Martensville Chamber of
Commerce would like to thank everyone
for coming out. “We would like to say a big
thank you to the Kinsmen and Kinettes that
volunteered to serve food and work the bar
throughout the evening. It was a fun night,
and we are looking forward to making next
year’s event even better,” Shanine Sealey,
Chamber of Commerce Director, stated.
The MCOC plans on releasing information
for the 2017 Small Business Party in
August, so keep an eye out!
