It was a beautiful weekend to watch some ball as Martensville Slo-Pitch held their league playoffs
at the slo-pitch diamonds. The teams were divided into A/A, A/B, B/B and B/B sides according to
the division they played during the season.

The CFL is so unpredictable
and especially this week.
There were no tight games
in week 9, only blowouts.
In only one game did the
losing team put up more
than 20 points. The upset
of the week went to the
Montreal Alouettes as they
took down the RedBlacks
who are at the top of the
eastern conference. Ottawa
got stomped 43-19 in their
home field. The RedBlacks
defence could not stop Kevin
Glenn as he would go on to
throw for 382 yards and a
staggering 5 touchdowns.
The win could be a turning
point in the Alouettes season
as they came into the game
with a 2-5 record. The next
blowout was Calgary over
the B.C. Lions on Friday
by a score of 37-9. The
Lions offence just couldn’t
get anything rolling as they
could only manage three
field goals and quarterback
Jonathon Jennings threw
for just 153 yards compared
to Bo Levi Mitchell’s
340 yards and 2 TD’s. On
Saturday, Toronto’s second
string QB Cody Fajardo
only threw for 44 yards in
place of the injured Ricky
Ray. Eskimos quarterback
Mike Reilly faired much
better with 362 yards in
Edmonton’s 46-23 victory.
Now
brace
yourself
Roughrider fans, as it
seems as though Sasky
just doesn’t have anything
in the tank. The Riders
got absolutely slaughtered
by the Hamilton TigerCats. All the green and
white could manage was
two field goals and a punt
single in the 53-7 thrashing.
Darian Durant was sacked
four times and threw four
interceptions while his
counterpart Zach Collaros
threw for 381 yards and
five touchdowns. Sasky is
now 1-7 on the year and
have almost zero chance of
making playoffs, making it
hard to tell what they can
do to fix their season. After
going 3-1 this week I’m up
to 12-4 on the year. This
week’s picks are the Lions,
Winnipeg, Edmonton, and
Calgary.
The Summer Olympics
in Rio are done now and
looking back at them,
Canada was sensational
ranking tenth in the medal
count with a total of 22
medals (4 gold, 3 silver,
15 bronze). Over half of
Canada’s medals came from
swimming and athletics
making talk about the
2020 Olympics in Japan
very interesting. Sprinter
Andre De Grasse became
the first ever Canadian
to win three medals for
sprinting in a single game.
He has high praise from
the Legend himself Usain
Bolt, saying he may be
the next fastest man in the
world. De Grasse finished
with a silver in the 200m
and bronze in the 100m
and 4x100m relay. Penny
Oleksiak has become a
household name after these
Olympics and she was even
named flag bearer for the
closing ceremonies. With
Oleksiak being just 16
years old the possibilities
are endless as to where her
career will take her. She
will be closely watched in
the next games to see if
she can keep up her stellar
performances.
Again
Canada finished 2016 with
22 medals, which is four
more than in London. All in
all, Rio was a giant success
for Canada and an even
bigger success for Brazil as
they were fantastic hosts to
the 2016 Olympic Games.
The next Winter Olympic
Games will be hosted by
Pyeongchang, South Korea
in 2018.
