Alumna Linda Kroll joins Board of Trustees
MU graduate Linda Kroll , associate vice president for finance at the University of Notre Dame , joined Manchester ’ s Board of Trustees on Aug . 1 .
Kroll earned two degrees from Manchester – her bachelor ’ s degree in accounting in 1993 and her master ’ s degree in accountancy in 1994 . She brings to the board expertise in finance , accounting and financial strategy . “ I am deeply humbled and honored to serve Manchester in this capacity ,” Kroll said . “ It is a special place for our family .”
A resident of South Bend , Kroll has been active in the community , including service on the Logan Center Board and being active at
Knapp joins leadership team
Clair Knapp joined MU as vice president and chief business officer on Aug . 8 . Previously , he served as chief financial officer of Ohio Dominican University and Bethel College in Mishawaka .
In his role , Knapp serves on the President ’ s Cabinet . He oversees the University ’ s budget , the Office of Financial Services , Information Technology Services , Conference Services , food services , Physical Plant and grounds and Student Financial Services .
Knapp was formerly a senior accounting manager at BKD , LLP , a top accounting firm in Fort Wayne .
He earned a bachelor ’ s degree in accounting from the University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne , an MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University , and he is a Certified Public Accountant . He and his wife , Kristi , grew up in Fort Wayne .
St . Michael ’ s and All Angels Episcopal Church . She is a graduate of the Harvard Management and Leadership Institute , and is also among professionals honored for giving back in her work and community as a member of the Michiana Top Forty Under 40 Class of 2010 . She is also active with the National Association of College and University Business Officers . Prior to joining Notre Dame in 1998 , Kroll served in professional practice at Crowe Chizek and Co . LLC ( now Crowe Horwath LLP ), where her clients included large for-profit corporations , as well as universities and nonprofit organizations .
She and her husband , Doug , have two children .
Pleadwell in Vietnam as MU ’ s 30th Fulbright
Emily Pleadwell ’ 16 , an English major from Lawrence , Mich ., is teaching in Vietnam for 10 months as Manchester ’ s newest Fulbright .
Since 1996 , 30 Manchester students have been selected to research or teach abroad as Fulbrights – more per capita than any other Indiana college or university .
Pleadwell was drawn to Vietnam after teaching English as a second language to Vietnamese domestic violence survivors at Interval House in Long Beach , Calif ., through MU ’ s Pathways program . She spent two summers , along with a January session , volunteering at the facility .
Through these experiences and studying abroad in Strasbourg , France , Pleadwell developed an “ addiction ” to language learning . She credits much of her success and her ability to function in areas far from the Midwest to her advisors , faculty members , and other MU experiences .
Her goal is to return to Southern California to help in “ Little Saigon ,” the largest Vietnamese population outside of Southeast Asia .
