Hey there DDR Magazine readers, Chirs and Dawn here from Sunny Florida! We get to experience some awesome music while we’re out there scouring the venues looking for local original music to showcase. There is no exception here with Simple Jack. We had the opportunity to sit down with the members of Simple Jack and get to know them a little better. This group has a great amount of support in the community and with their families. Here is some insight into this amazing band. DDR: Congratulations on your recent CD release, The Great Unknown. It’s a great album that takes you on a roller coaster of emotions. How’s it feel to hear your single on the radio? Shaun: Thank you. That was the idea behind the album, it not only takes you on a roller coaster of emotions but it spans “genres” as well. I really hate the idea of having to fit into 1 particular genre and sticking with it. Music is meant to unite not divide, each of us in the band like different music and are influenced by different artists and when you do not put a leash on that inspiration “The Great Unknown” is what you get. It is a pretty surreal feeling to hear ourselves on the radio and we want to make sure that we thank you guys at Dead Daves Radio, 96 KRock and all the other stations that are playing us and giving independent artists a fighting shot to have their voice heard. DDR: That’s a great statement, “Music is meant to unite not divide.” We couldn’t agree more. First off, can you give us a little history of your band? How long you’ve been together? How far have you toured? Shaun: Well Jarrod and I first met through my wife and he and I used to make atrocious YouTube videos of our favorite 90’s rock songs. After a bit of that we recruited Chris Supik our lead guitarist and Tyler Hargrove our bassist as well as Brian Gummere our drummer back in December of 2011. I keep forgetting that it has been almost 3 years since Simple Jack was officially formed. DDR: Isn’t it funny when we go back and look at ourselves after we have grown. We wonder what the hell we were thinking. Shaun: We have played mainly regionally, making our way out to Margate and Belle Glade but we have been sending out our Press Kit to some venues a little farther outside of SWFL and if the right opportunity came up to jump on a national tour we would jump at the chance. DDR: The music you guys make is an eclectic mix of reggae, punk, ska, and rock. What kinds of bands influenced you to create this amazing blend? Shaun: Sublime, Nirvana, John Lennon, Big D and The Kids Table, Rebelution and Soja Jarrod: Deftones and Non Point Supik: Rebelution, August Burns Red, Aerosmith, Reel Big Fish Tyler: Pink Floyd, Rebelution Brian: Sublime, Mastodon DDR: You guys have a wide range of tastes in music, which is probably what makes your band so different. We’ve been very fortunate to see a few of your performances. How do you guys keep up the energy you have on that stage for your sets? Shaun: I think I can speak for everyone in saying that we just love playing. It brings such an adrenaline rush out to play music and to see your music affecting others. The bigger the crowd or the more the crowd is into it directly influences how crazy we get on stage. That and Jäger…..
